Hello everyone,

i recently made an appointment at my DMV to finally apply for a REAL ID CA Drivers License, despite the 2020 deadline for California to adopt the REAL ID and my DL does not expire till 2022.

here are the requirements for my state:
A DMV field office visit is required to apply for the new REAL ID card. To apply for a REAL ID card, you must do the following:

- Make an appointment to visit a field office on or after January 22, 2018.
- Provide proof of identity, such as a U.S. birth certificate, U.S. passport, employment authorization document, permanent resident card or foreign passport with an approved form I-94.
- Show a California residency document.
- Present proof of your Social Security number.
Note: You can request a replacement Social Security card online.

i believe we qualify for this depends on the state you live in, has anyone applied or already have their REAL ID DL w/ DACA?

thanks for the info.

I went into my local DMV in California and got my Real ID without any problems. Showed my EAD, SS Card, and a utility bill to prove my California residency. Paid $28 for the real Id Cali drivers license. The question is, will it be a 5 year one? I’ll let you know.

I went in and said I needed a replacement Drivers License since I lost mine. They may or may not give you a new license with an updated exp date. It’s been hit or miss. I got one for 2 years and exp with my EAD and I got one that exp 3 years on my bday.

I'm still not entirely sure how REAL ID works. Say we fly to a state that requires REAL ID. Can we fly back out?

yeah it's dependent on your license (your home state)

i believe by 2020, REAL ID is mandatory for all domestic flights nationwide.

take in mind you don't need a REAL ID via driving license medium, but your DL will not be good for any federal purpose but luckily we have out EAD and passports which will suffice.

Here is the thing; if you do decide to apply for a REAL ID card, it will be tied to the expiration date of your EAD card. Just remember that your EAD card is already REAL ID compliant so it should be more than enough to use for flighting
