Readout of the President's Meeting with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus

In an Oval Office meeting today, the President discussed immigration reform with members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC). The President and the members discussed their deep disappointment with the DREAM Act failing in the U.S. Senate despite having the support of a majority of Senators and a majority of the American people, noting that it would have cut the budget deficit by $2.2 billion over the next 10 years. The President reiterated that he will not give up on the DREAM Act, and thanked the members for their tireless leadership on this issue.

Washington (CNN) -- The numbers for the 2010 census are out, and the news appears good for Republican-leaning states when it comes to adding new seats in the House of Representatives.

The president reiterated his support for the DREAM Act and comprehensive immigration reform during his sit-down with five members of the caucus.

Facing long odds, Obama vows immigration push

President Barack Obama told Congressional Hispanic Caucus members Tuesday that he’ll renew his push for comprehensive immigration reform in 2011 — even though such an effort would face even longer odds in a Congress where Republicans control the House.

Obama made the pledge following the defeat last weekend of a more narrowly tailored legalization measure, which cleared the Democratic House by a slim margin but failed in the Senate Saturday.
