McCain unsure of immigration priority from Obama

Associated Press - December 16, 2008 6:44 PM ET

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Arizona Sen. John McCain, back in his home state, says he looks forward to working with President-elect Obama on the country's economic ills.

McCain, talking Tuesday to the Tucson Citizen's editorial board, said the incoming president will be setting the nation's legislative agenda, and he's not sure where immigration reform falls among Obama's top priorities.

But McCain said it's an issue that needs to be addressed.

McCain sponsored comprehensive immigration reform legislation that failed twice. He said Americans need to be assured first that the nation's borders are secured.

He also believes he and Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano - Obama's nominee to be Homeland Security secretary - are in general agreement on immigration reform.

McCain is all talk. Did we forget how he said he wouldn't vote on his own immigration bill during the presidential campaign to appeal to the conservatives? What an asshole.

No matter. We still need his vote. The goal is to convince our Representatives and Senators that our side of the issue has more votes. Thats all they care about, job security.
