Speaking of far away Units: First trip to MEPS the only job that populated once the Army liaison put my name in the system was for 88M 317 miles away from me. He was very cool about in contrary to the other Army liaison in the room who said along the lines of "you're just doing it for citizenship, just take it", so the SFC that was doing my enlistment called up my recruiter and told me to come back at the beginning on the month so that more training was available.

I went back to MEPS just the other week and signed up for 74D, chem ops with a Unit 30 miles away from me (hell yes). It's good to know some soldiers have consideration for others. I'm pretty happy with it, It's not really what I wanted since I wanted something medical in the 68 series, but I'm just happy to have this door opened for me 10 years after first taking interest in DREAM and wanting to pursue the military route towards citizenship.

Signed my enlistment contract/swore in today as a 74D CBRN Specialist, current scheduled ship out date is January of next year. Yay!

Congrats man! What were your other choices? I think that was one of my choices as well.

You're shipping out a month earlier than me haha! Is your unit fairly close to your house?

Thanks! I know our picking is slim but was seriously expecting more than 2 choices lol.. the only other MOS avail was 12B combat 'engineer' - or just a fancy made up term for bomb squad/demolitions. Defusing mines and etc, yeahhhh nooooooo. Fk no.

They had few 12B openings, 10 miles from my residence, and 2 or 3 more in the surroundings, but I opted for the 74D and rather drive 120 miles to east LA ;p

Both MOS choices offered 5k in incentives which was interesting.

Hahaha good choice!! I'm glad you knew what that 12D really meant...

And dude! My 74D option was also in East LA... El Monte right? Haha dang, we could've been in the same unit with the same job!

And yea, 74D also had a 5K bonus at the time of my enlistment. Isn't someone else 74D on here?

Also, you mentioned "current" ship date...

Can our ship dates potentially be moved?... (closer I hope.. lol)

Yes on El Monte, you're right looks like user 'kbs111' is also 74D, we're probably in the same unit lol. As far as I know I'll be going up next week to start drill, get military ID and all that.

As for the ship date, I said current because it often gets delayed/moved back, really hope that's not the case for us and they work out the kinks that they're dealing with now. I don't think it ever gets moved sooner for us though. Pretty sure DACA is the bottom of the barrel on the priority list but whatever, not in a situation to complain at the opportunity.

That's exciting, DAPer's in the same unit, might as well create a specialized Dream Act unit who can scale fortresses or one way plane rides airborne type.

lol, well I did volunteer yes for Airborne.

Just sent in my DACA renewal today, hopefully this is the last time doing this shit.
