Being from va i was a big supporter of john but seems as if he doesnt care about us also I feel as if the black communities are turning their back on us after they got the Hispanic votes needed for barrack to win.

Well they did plan on sending them back to Africa.

Okay then, tell me captain, what do you suppose is the solution, wait till we grow old and eventually die off?

they passed the 86' amnesty and it failed. even chewbaca knows that they are right about that. what in the Dream act guarantees these people that 10 years from now not another Dreamies like us will want another path to citizenship for being here illegally?

we have to be realistic and think like adults.

Please don't listen to Tancredo and company on African Americans and immigration. They're trying to broaden their anti-immigrant coalition to get their their support just like they're trying to get environmental group support but these groups have other priorities. Like Al Sharpton said, some of the undocumented immigrants are black from Haiti or other parts of Latin America.

Most Americans want to reform the broken immigration system and that requires tough but fair comprehensive immigration reform.

assuming that we were both brought here at a young age... and now have both grown up... answer me these things.

- has your house ever been raided at 5a.m and you have been arrested by ICE?
- has your dad spent 6 months in prison b/c he was illegally here?
- were you ever forced to wear ankle bracelets for 3 months, only being allowed to leave your house for 8 hours a day?
- can you predict how much more time you got left b4 they come and take you back?
- are you aging out?
- has your family been separated?

if you haven't been through all those things, then you don't really know how U.S.A does it.

there's no next year, there's this year... i love you all and i want this for all of you so u can go and live your lives. but we are not dealing with the church here, we are dealing with angry/ racist/ dumb fucks. you have to beat them at their own game.

and CIR_2009, yea they want it, the reason being is b/c reform means both a path to citizenship and stronger border.

to the one above... the solution is to let them debate about what they would prefer... and we see if its fair to both sides.

Exactly so stop this shit. Let THEM DEBATE it. The point is the opposition does not want to give us anything so why go in with your pants down to your knees already. If we start demanding less and less it gives them the 'power'. Let the big boys handle this. I'm sure Durbin and his boys will know how to negotiate the deal. You never go into a negotiation already submitting to the other party's demands, its not how it works so let them go with 'demands' on DREAM and they will perhaps water it down or not. What we can do is attempt to get more players on their side to give put the ball in their court when it comes to negotiate....So concentrate on recruiting the players (reps/senators) and stop redefining DREAM here on DAP because it's not like Durbin and his team sit in their offices taking notes on our discussions.

If we let them debate solely, just imagine the choices they'll make. These lawmakers are like puppets we have to slap some sense to them. I mean Bush was elected president of the United States, so any moron can become a lawmaker.

There is no comparison to slavery & immigration
I was comparing the fight Africans put up against slavery & discrimination. We should also fight for the right to belong here, we've caused no harm to society, grew up from childhood in this country, and want to better ourselves positively as well as this country.

This is surprising. I always thought he leaned towards supporting the DA. Still, this doesn't absolutely mean he will vote against cloture. Sen. Reid may get him to support cloture, but just vote against the bill since he is a freshman democrat.

Also to ehfornue:

I think you mean civil rights, not slavery. We are fighting for our right to legally live in this country. We are not enslaved by anyone. Our situation shouldn't be compared to slavery.

Re: Mark Warner Opposes the dream act

I'm comparing the fighting effort put, not slavery as whole, we should fight for our right to belong, not just sit on our ass and wait for some bozo to decide if we belong here. If I have to I'll go to war for this country as did the slaves during the civil war.

And besides, what do you call an immigrant with 3 jobs, that barely makes its monthly payments and has to borrow from his compadre to feed his family? A slave to the society.
