Amnesty international, a branch of UN organization (no, it does not have anything to do with immigration amnesty btw), is targetting injustice like descrimination and violating education rights which could very much be affected with our situation. If we can find a way to tie our situation with some of the issues they're fighting, then we can possibly campaign for their support. It could be possible.

here's their website, and some info to check out:

Indeed. We could also argue that many of us are having a tough time putting food on our family's dinner table. Its very difficult to get jobs and I'm sure many are still sitting home in despair. Now that we are here in USA, there is no other choice. We're sorry but Dream Act is the answer.

I work a bit with Amnesty, and we were out making calls to Senators and Representatives in favor of the DREAM Act and a few other immigration things last year. I'm pretty sure we have their support.

^^

That's great news! I work a bit with them too. AI actually has quarters/organization worldwide, and if often those that are in your region would get together to talk about topics. None has been put forward about immigration yet here in my area, but the issue is definitely there. I think it's a HUGE part of the reason why laws like SB1070 and the Alabama bill can't be implemented on it's own. Both bills would lead to descrimination and violation of rights to educate (banning k-12 schooling for undocs, please!), and the USA can't afford to have a bad rep with the UN.

Also since human rights goes beyond lawful documents and government rules, you don't have to be a "legal permanent immigrant" to fight for it.

I don't think that would work. You will say "Help us out" and they will say "why not use your education in your home country" and you will say "because its poor and smelly and I'm too good for it and I want a first world country. Help us out." I don't think it will work.

I'm sure there are people who don't want to return because of that but I think it's offensive to generalize all of us like that. It's honorable that you went back to your country to help out but you shouldn't look down on other people making different choices.

On topic: this won't work and I don't see it growing much either.

.

Fair enough. It's just a discussion question. Things will change in the US. :- )
