Economy is not something you can fix over night or by passing any laws. It will take time, but in the mean while, they should work on something about immigration.

done.

So simple, nothing else to talk about

With all due respect, saying this might be easy for the most of us now because of DACA. But, we have to consider that many families do not have the GOP's sweet time and interest in securing the border first. I am sure you know what I am talking about. I know families who are barely hanging on and dreamers who were excluded from DACA because of an age technicality, and waiting until the border is "secure" is an issue.

Why would they prioritize immigration reform over the economy? Immigration reform is not something they will fix overnight. They can work on CIR and implement while there is good improvement to the economy. A penalty component to CIR would also help the economy (i would personally like to see a penalty between 1k-5k), but if youre going to be "documenting" millions of people who are going to be looking for jobs immediately after, it'll help a great deal to have a stable economy.

Economic development is crucial. However, comprehensive immigration reform is a policy that is actually associated with and needed for economic development; it aims, for example, to legalize unlawful yet industrious individuals who want to contribute to US growth.

Thats true, but again this depends on the details of CIR. Obviously, if it was a guaranteed path to permanent residence people would gladly start small businesses or make investments etc..., however if its something subdued like daca, then whose really going to want to potentially spend portions of their life savings given that there is no certainty.

But yes, i do in general agree that CIR will help the economy, and making people pay penalties will help as well. But it would be nice if the economy was becoming more "tolerable" to everyone so when CIR passes it wont be viewed as a burden and there wont be millions of articles titled "Immigrants seek to take jobs away from citizens in this struggling economy"

Very true; I see what you are saying. Now, making the argument that immgiration reform will help improve the economy is difficult because of the unemployment rate; Americans panic when they are reminded that they will be competing against 11 to 12 million productive immigrants in the labor market.

Yeah exactly, i think it would be more believable to genuinely pass it off as "hey the economy is somewhat stabilized and growing at a good rate...lets pass CIR to give it the little boost it needs so that we dont have to worry about it everyday"

If you think CIR is gonna get done in his first year or second think again...Because of the economy or border fence, those are just excuses that will be used to stop it ..Did u read all those racist tweets directed at our President..If the media keeps up all the hype about the Latino vote..it will do nothing but piss off those right wing Republicans as well as Rush Limbaugh and FOX News who will stop at nothing to ensure it doesn't pass..OH yeah the republicans are gonna tone down their rhetoric towards immigration ,,because the are grooming a young guy by the name of GEORGE P. BUSH who is half mexican and quite brown in color..Don't believe its Rubio

If the half-Latino George P. Bush doesn't act positively toward immigration, he's not gonna do much better than Rubio, who is 100% Latino. If he is successful by adopting his uncle's (George W. Bush) position on immigration, then we'll be closer to CIR.
