Re: Prediction: Graham-Durbin bill
I'll bet my house CIR doesn't happen in the next 2 years. It could only happen if dems pick up a lot senate seats in the midterms to make them feel safe in doing that.
Honestly best not to speculate. We really have to wait and see what the GOP are only asking for in exchange for a DACA > legalization billl, assuming they're not just asking for poison pills in order to make a deal untenable. |
Re: Prediction: Graham-Durbin bill
He’s spoken with Sen. Lindsey Graham, who in 2013 supported comprehensive reform, and Menendez thinks the South Carolina Republican will ultimately support reform measures. Menendez has not spoken to Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla) about the bill yet, but he’s talked to other Republicans who voted in favor of the effort in 2013. The additional Republicans still in office that supported immigration reform under Obama are Sens. John Hoeven (N.D.), Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) and Susan Collins (Maine).

Re: Prediction: Graham-Durbin bill
2010 was different
-no enforcement only DA -didnt have DACA yet to prove we are productive Now it will be VERY different -enforcement will be paired up with DA -we have passed background and proven ourselves for close to 10 years |
Re: Prediction: Graham-Durbin bill
Is enforcement enough? What about e-verify, limits to immigration, "chain migration", and other republican issues.
Republicans assume that new voters and immigrants will vote democrat and they have done nothing to grow their base. It was the immigrants that won them Florida and boosted their support in Texas. That is the entire issue here, if we give legal status to these people, how will they vote, will that be enough to shift the electorate to the opposite side. There no other principle at play there. Dems push for immigration because they assume the most immigrants will vote Dem |
