there shouldnt be a huge delay if you submitted at least 6-8 months in advance

Yes. I applied about a year before my expiration and it was accepted.

That doesn’t apply to DACA based EADs. Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but that was my understanding.

You are correct. The auto extension does NOT apply to DACA c33. See link below.
