Re: DREAM vote next week!
Take Action on DREAM now
Senator Reid will be moving the DREAM Act to a vote via as an amendment to the Defense Authorization Bill. What does this mean? It means that the DREAM Act still needs 60 votes to pass. We still need 60 senators to say yes when it comes time for the bill to be attached to the defense bill. What can you do to help? We need calls right now. We need to flood offices with calls in support of the DREAM Act. Currently we are being beat by anti-immigrants 10 calls to 1. That means for every 1 call you make in support 10 people are calling against the DREAM Act. TAKE ACTION NOW AND CALL IN SUPPORT OF THE DREAM ACT: Dial: 1-888-254-5087 Ask for the following people and leave a message with their office. Call-in Script for Republicans: “Hi I am calling to ask that Senator _______ vote for the DREAM Act. This bill will allow for undocumented youth to fix their status by serving this country in the armed services in addition to allowing for them to return the investment our country has made in them. Please have the member support the dream act.” Republicans: Sen. Hatch of Utah Sen. Bunning of Kentucky Sen. Bennet of Utah Sen. Gregg of New Hampshire Sen. Bailey-Hutchison of Texas Sen. McCain of Arizona Sen. Voinovich of Ohio Sen. Snowe of Maine Sen. Collins of Maine Sen. LeMeiux of Florida Sen. Brownback of Kansas Call-in script for Democrats: “Hi I am calling to ask that Senator _______ vote in favor of the DREAM Act. This bill will allow for thousands of undocumented youth to fix their status by getting a two year college degree or joining the military. This is an investment in our countries future. Support the DREAM Act.” Democrats: Sen. Hagan of North Carolina Sen. Pryor of Arkansas Sen. Landrieu of Louisiana Sen. Conrad of North Dakota Sen. Dorgan of North Dakota Sen. Nelson of Florida Sen. Baucus of Montana Sen. Tester of Montana Sen. Feinstein of California CALLED ALL OF THEM? CALL AGAIN AND HAVE FIVE FRIENDS DO THE SAME THING. http://immigration.change.org/petiti..._the_dream_act |
Re: DREAM vote next week!
call 1 888 254 5087 and someone will pick up, then you tell them to transfer you to a senator of your choice, or just say a state, and then they will transfer you there. at this time their offices are closed, as they close at 5:00 PM. so you can leave a message telling them to vote for the DREAM act. you can also call tomorrow before they close to get one of their aides. Im calling tonight and tommorrow, so they can see that there are lots of supporters. if you can call, and call again, repeatedly.

Re: DREAM vote next week!
People be sure to pay special attention to Hagan (D, North Carolina), she may vote yes on Dream act to be part of a bigger legislation as she says she won't support it as a standalone.

Re: DREAM vote next week!
They will be voting whether or not to attach it to the National Defense Authorization Act. If it gets 60 votes, then it will be attached to the bill. Then the bill will be voted on. If the bill passes, then DA passes because it is attached.

Re: DREAM vote next week!
Guys, if you have not been making calls, THIS IS THE TIME to do it. Our LIFE depends on this and I hope you've grown mature enough to realize this.
However, I would not waste a minute of sleep thinking about next Tuesday. If you have been following the DA/CIR scene for a long time like many of us, we have been lied to/disappointed by these assholes we call Politicians over and over and over and over. Reid is fighting a tough battle in his state for the upcoming re-election. As someone pointed out on this forum, there is a very good chance that Reid KNOWS that he doesn't have the votes to get this attached to the Defense Bill. There is a good chance that Reid is doing this just so he can say "Hey my fellow pro-immigration voters! I've tried to pass the DA but the Republicans just did not want to pass it. Vote for me this November and I will keep trying!" But all that aside, PLEASE, keep calling and calling and calling! Quote:

Pass the law
Oh my!!! I really Hope this time is our time, Life gets harder and harder as I get older. All We Want is to be able to finish our degrees and get a job with them. We don't want anything for free, we don't want food stamps every week, we just want to go to school and get a Good job.

Re: DREAM vote next week!
I have just joined in today. I have tried calling the senators to leave a message, but whenever I do, I start crying. Is there a way for me to email instead?? Thank you all.

Re: DREAM vote next week!
WASHINGTON — Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Tuesday he wants to attach an amendment to an upcoming defense policy bill that would help young people in the country illegally become legal U.S. residents.
The Nevada Democrat said at a Capitol news conference that the legislation known as the DREAM Act is long overdue. But he wouldn’t say whether he has the votes for the amendment. The act allows young people who attend college or join the military to become legal U.S. residents. The young people must have come to the country when they were under 16 years of age and have been in the country five years. They have to serve in the military at least two years and complete two years of college. Democrats have also promised gay rights groups an end to the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy. That is in the bill that Reid said he’ll try to take up next week. Republicans oppose both measures. Asked whether he had the votes for the DREAM Act, Reid responded: “I sure hope so.” President Barack Obama has been under fire in the immigrant and Hispanic communities because Congress has failed to move an immigration reform bill despite his promise to address the issue in his first year in the Oval Office. Some critics say Democrats’ end-of-the-year push on immigration reform is a political move. Reid is facing a tough re-election challenge from tea party favorite Sharron Angle, who supports tougher immigration laws. Hispanics make up a quarter of Nevada’s population. A spokesman for the Nevada Republican Party declared Reid’s announcement a campaign stunt. “Nevada voters will overwhelmingly reject these desperate political parlor games that could only come from a 28-year establishment Democrat seeking a fifth term in the U.S. Senate,” Jahan Wilcox said in a statement. Reid blamed Republicans for the inability to pass a sweeping immigration reform bill. “I’ve tried to. I’ve tried so very, very hard, but those Republicans we’ve had in the last Congress (who backed immigration reform) have left us,” he said. Minutes before Reid announced his plans, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky, described the defense policy bill as “needlessly controversial” because of the inclusion of the “don’t ask, don’t tell” measure and plans to add the DREAM Act.
