Yeah, only to get Hispanic votes for 08 election. He walked out on senate vote so he can boast to anti-immigrants. He doesn't want it to pass so he can gain supports from both parties.

He didn't vote for Dream Act even after election.. a couple of weeks ago.

He wants to make you feel like he's on your side. "Making it seem like he's advocating for immigration reform just enough to get you on his side but not actually do anything" is perfect for him and just what he needs.

Yes. BRAVO!!! That's what I have always wondered: What does secure mean to these guys? Come on Republicans show us the yellow brick road/ give us a sign. I also saw a Marco Rubio interview last night. He says the same thing: secure the border and compel every employer to check the immigration status of workers first . . . then immigration reform. I am sorry, but these guys are idiots. Border security, e-verify, and legalization have to happen in one bill (CIR).

Just imagine how difficult it would be for all of us in terms of sustenance/housing/money if the borders were secure and all employers started checking immigration status.

Totally agree. I think the border is sercure enough. The relatively easiest way would be through the desert, but that way is almost 65%-75% guaranteed death for people crossing. If Republicans want the fence, that's the stupidest way to go and a waste of money. But hey, if that's what they want, give it to them (as far as funding to continue the project) through CIR. I think what Republicans are really aiming for is to get Obama and Democrats to make e-verify mandatory. I think that would really make life even more difficult for the illegal immigrant community.

Desert is too hot(no pun intended) sensors are spread throughout the known routes, not to mention infrared cameras and remote controlled hawks. The easiest way is through the border itself but I won't go into detail. It's all a matter of supply and demand as long as there is demand people will find a way to pay and get over. Plus who do you think is gonna pick the fruits and vegetables? I've had a BP agent tell me straight out that during picking season they turn a blind eye because they know no one else will pick their food.
