don't know how tight trump and ryan are, but one way i could see it happening is if a bill explicitly states that it'd grant funds for his wall. i think our president would push heavily for it at that point, but then you'd have the problem of dems not supporting it on the basis of the wall being a "symbol of hate" etc.

thats just the senate plan, Curbelo said the House version could come out in the next 24-48 hrs.

god damn, so many bills.

Yea the "wall" is a symbol of hate but not a fence. Dems can be hypocritical on this.

This afternoon, we were debating about whether to hate Dems or Republicans or the media. But scrolling through the replies to Flake's tweet about DACA has made me realize that the group of people that truly supports us are the American people (minus the Trumpsters). Many people who have no skin in the game are pretty passionate about our cause.

Man I always figured Graham or Big Dick Durbin would be the one's helping us. Turns out it's Frosted Flake the republican who's getting a Christmas card this year

So if it passes the Senate but Ryan doesn't bring it to a vote, does the bill just die?

The majority of the U.S population is for us except for the uncompassionate right-wing nut jobs who only want enforcement

Most likely unless Dems attach it to the spending bill January 19th. And we know they’ve already caved twice

True though I'm not sure they would react as negatively as people expect they would if the government was temporarily shut down because of the DACA issue.

Let's not be gullible, we all know Ryan promised Hawks he'd invoke the hastert rule on any legislation. House Republican's are pieces of dog shit. While I believe dream act would pass both the house and Senate, it's unlike that Ryan would get over 120 Republican's to sign on. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. We've been here before (remember 2013 cir passing with a veto proof majority and that butthole boehner blocking it?). Then there's the threat of Trump caving to the Ann coulter's of the world and vetoing the bill. Democrats have to grow some fucking balls, use their leverage and ram the Dream act through fucking Congress so it can get to the president's desk. If this doesn't happen expect absolutely nothing (poor dreamers crying in the ads for Dems in midterm's) or a 3 year non renewable work permit (bridge act).

This. Unless Ryan decides to say goodbye to his speakership next month, a bill for DACA detached from a spending bill will not pass through both houses. I still say give it all you've got to pressure the bozos in Congress to pass something this week. It might be useful that the house is sending the Senate a shit bill, the Cr-Omnibus. Maybe they can attach Flake's bill to it. Even the moderate Senators' bases won't like the CR-Omnibus by itself.

this is why a clean DA was always a pipe dream.
im sure the sympathy waivers when the number jumps from 800k to over 2 million.
i think with proper interior enforcement + actual wall building even ann coulter would cave in because i don't see another better oppurtinity for trump to get his wall.
they've been kicking that can down the road too, but it'll come to ahead in midterms. this is why you see so many republicans actually supporting this whole thing, they know what's coming.
i can guarantee you trump, bannon, and all that inner circle are ready to throw neocons and RINO's into the fire that is an enraged america if no progress on the wall is made. trump has been slowly winning over fox support and no RINO will be safe next year.

Do they have to reintroduce all the DACA related bills again, if it goes into the next year? Where new Congress starts.

Re: Jeff Flake: Bipartisan DACA in January.

All of you talking about Ryan not bringing it up for a vote are forgetting that Trump is president and that whatever comes out of this bill is part of his anti immigrant agenda. The agenda is supported by the Republican Party. We were just lucky enough to be thrown a bone since none of the anti immigrant agenda would get 60 votes in the senate.

Do you think Paul Ryan will block his own party’s agenda?

My money's on Flake. He was guaranteed this by the turtle and Pence in exchange for his vote on the tax bill. Republicans, take us over the finish line!

Re: Jeff Flake: Bipartisan DACA in January.

If the Senate bill is loaded with border security and possibly with Trump's beautiful wall then why would the House kill it on arrival? Makes no sense. Just make it all about the wall, and dont mention DACA and theyll pass it, and our lord and savior will sign it in a minute.

Ianus 12-20-2017 09:04 AM

Re: Jeff Flake: Bipartisan DACA in January.

There is an assumption the Flake bill will automatically get out of the Senate because it is bi-partisan. One has to look at the steps need for passage.

1. Majority Leader brings it to the floor or from out of committee- check

2. Motion to proceed- (60 votes needed)- possible

3. Motion to invoke cloture- The big unknown....

What assurances do the Democrats have that this will actually come for a vote come January? Even if it passes the Senate. Ryan can just kill the bill just the way Boehner did with the CIR 2013 bill. Are Democrats really this gullible?

No assurances. I believe if this compromise gets a vote, it will pass the Senate. I don't think McConnell will allow a vote without the guarantee of passage. Then there's the question of the House & and Trump.

Apparently they are.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but Menendez warned us a few days ago about this and his reasoning was the Dems have more power with Debt Ceiling negotiations which cannot go past 01/19/18.

That’s what I understood from Menendez as well. I had previously heard that debt ceiling talks next month would take away leverage from Dems.

Sorry I'm getting confused. Besides us having to wait longer (if it comes to a vote in January).
Could someone explain:

Isn't the wall part of this last CR they're trying to pass?
What leverage are democrats losing if they wait to vote in January?
Do they still have to approve a debt ceiling and a long term budget?

Still, Menendez warned "Dreamers" — DACA recipients and other immigrants who arrived in the country as children — that Democrats might have to wait until January to use their leverage to get a good deal, rather than a bad deal in December.

Until McConnell himself says this, and there’s an actual deal, this is just smoke and mirrors so Dems will cave this week.

He probably did agree to bring the bill to the floor. That doesn't mean he will vote for it, or that it will pass, that's on the bipartisan group to get the votes.

I'm more worried about the House. The only thing giving me hope there is that Ryan has sounded somewhat sympathetic when talking about Dreamers, and he did say that he "wouldn't pull the rug from underneath" us.

What is total BS though is that the White House just barely started talking to Senators and hasn't given them a list of what provisions they are willing to accept, or what they want in the deal. Probably why these talks have been going nowhere. Why bother trying to strike a deal if there is a veto threat?
