Re: Change.org Round 2 Voting -- Official Thread
I just voted! every vote counts!:D let's do this people!
|
Re: Change.org Round 2 Voting -- Official Thread
I'm heartened to see our climbing numbers, but annoyed that we're still in 15th place with a deficit of 900 or so votes. It's really important to stress to those on your list that they should not vote for anything above or near DREAM Act, as voting for other things most likely cancels out their DREAM vote.
|
Re: Change.org Round 2 Voting -- Official Thread
I'm out listservers and facebook friends to forward this too...We do hold the #2 spot on comments though...for whatever that counts.
|
Re: Change.org Round 2 Voting -- Official Thread
another thing not helping much is change.org servers are getting overloaded .

Re: Change.org Round 2 Voting -- Official Thread
Still in the 900s. If people who vote for the DREAM Act also vote for other ideas, then they are in effect canceling their vote!! *mad face*

Re: Change.org Round 2 Voting -- Official Thread
did our endorsers voted?:?:
|
Re: Change.org Round 2 Voting -- Official Thread
We are getting around 3 votes every minute:-P
|
Re: Change.org Round 2 Voting -- Official Thread
We have a lot of endorsers, which is helping. Everyone should think of a site or organization that would be willing to endorse the idea, and send a email to them. I'm trying to figure out who I should contact to get CUNY to enter the list and post up a link on the website. Cuny.edu gets a lot of hits, especially because it's about that time to pay tuition.

Re: Change.org Round 2 Voting -- Official Thread
good idea anyone got a nice template that i and others could use to ask websites/blogs to endorse and advertise the dream act change.org campaign.
by the way we just moved up to #14 yay! lol but lets keep working harder. |

Re: Change.org Round 2 Voting -- Official Thread
Thinking strategically here...
I'm sure we've all noticed that there are two pot issues in the top fifteen (as well as an "end the drug war" idea). Is there any way to get the second pot idea disqualified? An idea with the same goal is already in first place, so it seems like the second pot idea is just taking up space. I can see it being unfair, but the two goals are virtually one in the same. Thoughts? |
Re: Change.org Round 2 Voting -- Official Thread
ok..people we need 1000 votes to at least be on the top 10...right now we are in 14th place..we just moved one spot and it took us a day...if we keep this up we will make it......thanks for all the people voted...

Re: Change.org Round 2 Voting -- Official Thread
Just emailed 11 friends! They all know about my illegal status but it still took me two hours to write the email. *hew*
time to watch wall-e. :) |
Re: Change.org Round 2 Voting -- Official Thread
Hey, first time poster
i found this list off the national immigration law center http://democracyinaction.org/dia/org...0Endorsers.htm maybe sending emails and calling these organizations that already have endorsed the dream act would boost votes |

We are in the process of contacting the above groups, if you want to see a list of the ones already contacted let me know, that way we can limit contacting the same group multiple times. Many groups, most actually, renew their support, however they have a process of formally "endorsing" an idea and so it is taking longer for them to send out an action alert of sorts to get the vote on this idea. Don't let this dissuade you though as these relationships will be so important in the long-term and so the vote is not the end of the world. One thing we definitely need and that would be a big help for this vote is for people who are religious to contact the church groups you see on that list and let them know about your status (it is via email - start a new anonymous one- you are safe!) and ask for their support / involvement. I know we have a number of Korean members on here and on that list there are at least 20 or 30 Korean centered groups. Keep information on everyone you send an email to, regardless of them replying or not we are going to follow up with them over the phone. One last thing: Over the weekend try and get hand written sign-ups, meaning get a name and E-mail address from people that want to sign up and vote but you know they are too lazy to take the initial step. Once we have these in hand we will manually sign them up, they then need to confirm their account and vote. Send me a note if you need this word document, it was sent out via the mailing list earlier. |
Re: Change.org Round 2 Voting -- Official Thread
how about handing in dream pamphlets after church?:-D

yo!!! why did it go from 14th to 15th!!!
|
Re: Change.org Round 2 Voting -- Official Thread
^^ We are in striking distance. Even though we are around 900 down, the 5 ideas above us are kind of slowing down. If we can just get as much attention to our cause, then we should pass them. I have been emailing and messaging out to several networking sites and I can see the great work others are doing.
Don't give up. |
Re: Change.org Round 2 Voting -- Official Thread
Started running some Google Ads for relevant keywords. Too early to call how effective they will be, but I will update you guys if I see a decent traffic volume.

I talked to a few co-workers today, I got their e-mails and their support! I will send them an e-mail to the link ASAP.

Re: Change.org Round 2 Voting -- Official Thread
We're in 14th place with only 800 votes to go. Keep e-mailing your friends and family and ask them to do the same! We have 5 days to go!
|
Re: Change.org Round 2 Voting -- Official Thread
We need to do some aggresive marketing. I will email the president of my university Hispanic Business Association Club and to get the words out to the members by email.
But I need a set of instructions, videos, our goals to place top 10, etc. If a good writer on this board will do this for me that would be great. How about someone make a facebook page for the second round for change.org and maybe we could all join to get the word out. |

For starters you can use this: VOTE FOR THE DREAM ACT!! For DREAM Act students and Allies! – CHANGE.ORG Change.org has pledged to pass on the top 10 ideas on their site to Obama on Inauguration day. They have implemented a two-round voting system, round one ended on January 1st. After over 7,000 ideas and 250,000 votes the DREAM Act idea finished in 8th place with a whopping 2219 votes! Round 2 began on January 5th, the 10 ideas with the most votes will be presented at the National Press Club in Washington D.C. as the "Top 10 Ideas for America." In addition to getting the ideas to Obama, change.org has pledged to form a national campaign for each of the issues. They have promised the support of their partners and their over 200,000 members! Re: Change.org Round 2 Voting -- Official Thread
Hey guys i know i haven't said much but i have been following this site since it launched back in '06 and followed Cosa before that, but let me get to the point.
Which is getting the Dream Act in the top 10. I don't know if you guys have heard of hi5.com i checked to see if they have a dream act group and there are no signs of it even though it has a predominately college age hispanic user base. I also don't think there is a cap set on the number of messages you can send, but you cannot send them in bulk. I have already sent maybe 300 messages in 30 minutes or so and will continue throughout the day since I'm not working. Let me know what you think. |
Re: Change.org Round 2 Voting -- Official Thread
Hey Willie,
same here I'm new to DAP. I have a hi5 account but I don't use it much. How would we go about making a group? or how can I add you as a friend? Thanks! |
Re: Change.org Round 2 Voting -- Official Thread

Re: Change.org Round 2 Voting -- Official Thread
Me and another person on myspace together have added over 2,000 friends in the past week we've posted bulletins , comments day and night. we are gaining support from various local/regional artist/dj's so i think we could reach #10 by monday afternoon if we continue at the pace of adding friends.
for anyone interested here's the myspace accounts http://myspace.com/dreamact2009 http://www.myspace.com/dream_act_now |

Also, I know this has been mentioned, but are they really going to make 2 nonprofit groups for the drug ideas? I would think it would be reasonable to combine them into 1 since they are basically the same. Actually there are 3 ideas dealing with drugs in the top 15... |
Re: Change.org Round 2 Voting -- Official Thread
Hey guys! We are currently 13th place right now!! Lets work harder until jan 15th so "dream act" can be on 10th place!! I've been post notes on facebook/ sending emails to my families/friends/teachers to vote on Dream Act. I'm soo excited!! This is one step closer to PASS DREAM ACT!! GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

Re: Change.org Round 2 Voting -- Official Thread

Dennis Kucinich has a Facebook page, and everyone who is a "supporter" gets messages from him to vote for that Dept. of Peace idea, which is currently in 9th place.
Should we contact him, or some other politician with a Facebook page, and ask if they would promote the DREAM Act idea? |

We are so close, also remember to get organizations to endorse. It is really really easy, they just need to submit the name of their group, website and do it from a work email. |
