That is false info, there are plenty of people who speak more than 2-3 language fluently, and have qualified via the language of choice. I think what you may have heard is that because some languages require indepth knowledge of the culture to converse, it'd help to be actually from that country, but it's not an absolutely requirement.

This is also what my recruiter told me.

This is also what my recruiter told me.

I just emailed my nearest recruiter. Hopefully the program reopens and I can enlist.

I'm taking my OPI test this Friday.
Don't know why but the recruiter called me and asked if I want to take the test and said yes. (Even though I still haven't take ASVAB or physical test)

Looks like it will reopen I guess...

Re: MAVNI updates

^That just means he put in a request for OPI before the program closed, and you can still do the OPI now since it's valid for 1 yr (i.e. if the program reopens less than in 12 months, you can use it)

No way to know if the program will reopen, or will be closed, and/or for how long.

That's good though, since some people's OPIs got cancelled.. let us know how it goes!

I've read here that birth certificate translation is required, but my recruiter says it is not required.
Anyone able to go into basics or finish it without needed it?

Hmm... well..

Your recruiter has also been to basic, but was probably never a MAVNI, nor did he probably ever have to naturalize (at least not in basic).

Mrs. K's husband, as you've read, was in the same boat as us.

I'll let you decide which source is more reliable.

Don't risk it, bro/sis.

Just translate it.

Thanks for the responses!

I am just not sure how to start the process. Do I call the embassy in Korea for a certified copy and the translated copy? I didn't want to create any unnecessary risks, since I am at the age for military service in Korea and I am currently expecting to ship for basic in Feb 2017.
