Yup. I've seen dreamers (including myself) get their hopes up only to realize that it was all politics (by both sides) and that politicians will tell you what you want to hear.

That's why I'm basing my decision to leave on the following factors:

Dems in the senate
Dems in the House
President
Dems who support the bill
Reps that support the bill
Unemployment rate
Anti-immigrant climate

We just don't have the votes this year so don't get your hopes up. Let's see what happens in November.....however, the composition of the senate will not change much and the house might still be controlled by Reps.

Key thing to remember: Reps won't support the DA until the "border is secured". Blue dog Dems won't support it either. Given this, I don't think it will pass during Obama's next 4 years.

The ARMS Act might get a lot more support from Republicans, but only if the U.S picks a fight with Iran and after the "border is secured" This can take years.....even then, Dems will not support it and Obama will not sign it if it means that Reps give up on the DA. (by feeling that they've done enough for dreamers and CIR).

Obama will win re-election, there's no way of getting around that. As long as the unemployment rate is high, the anti-immigrant climate will remain.

My future is not so bad since I managed to save enough to buy a house (a decent one), so I'm not hating because I probably won't benefit from the DA or AMRS Act.

Don't get me wrong, I want something to pass...I just hate career politicians: 90% of them.

Rather than being optimistic, be proactive. Get an education and hope for the best.

Marching downtown and calling senators, sit-ins, and hunger strikes haven't worked so far, so at the very least focus your hopes and courage on improving yourselves.

Don't agree with you on some things. But, fair.

Most of the people that would be taking advantage of the ARMS Act would be Dreamers. Having said that, politicians would rather a college graduate become a pawn in a bureaucrat's chess game. Personally, I want my status to change, considering I have 4.0 GPA in college, but taking my chances on the battle field and fighting a bureaucrat's war seems out of the question. I applaud people who are brave enough to serve in the army. Wish you the best. I'm going to be proactive and pursue my master's degree, because it's not about the job anymore its about the knowledge.

I understand where you are coming from. But, check out the US Coast Guard web page.

My buddies signed up for the national guard back in 2003 and within 9 months all of them were in the middle east.

My interpretation could be wrong, but from these quotes it seems like the Secretary of Homeland security could also choose to grant conditional status to those who choose the college route.

Quote:

the Secretary of Homeland Security may cancel removal of an alien who is inadmissible or deportable from the United States, and grant the alien conditional nonimmigrant status, if the alien demonstrates by a preponderance of the evidence that...
Quote:

(D) the alien— (i) has been admitted to an institution of higher education in the United States; or (ii) has earned a high school diploma or obtained a general education development certificate in the United States;
Under section 4 (SEC. 4. CANCELLATION OF REMOVAL OF CERTAIN LONG-
21 TERM RESIDENTS WHO ENTERED THE
22 UNITED STATES AS CHILDREN) , it specifically states the quotes I have pointed out. I could have misinterpreted them though, so I apologize ahead of time.

Though, under SEC. 5. CONDITIONAL NONIMMIGRANT STATUS, it does mention military enlistment. But it may be possible that the Secretary of Defense could possibly grant us such conditional status to dreamers who attend college conditional status.
