I think that is because those with the loudest voices are always making the same argument.What needs to happen is a reset on the messaging within the GOP along the lines that we're all in this together[which they seem to have at least an interest].The anti-immigrant nutjobs like to argue that 'illegal immigrants' don't pay their fair share OR take away jobs from Citizens and a successful counter to that is if you legalize them they aid our economy by bringing in more revenue for the Government to combat our Debt and Deficit because we need all hands on deck if the undocumented already have jobs.When I looked at the exit polls it mentioned over 60 % of the individuals voting on the Republican side were concerned about the Deficit and we should frame the Immigration debate on the positives it can help in that regard.

We aren't in a recession. It was over a few months after Obama took office and the unemployment is under 8%.

CIR will improve the economy dramatically by creating jobs and tax revenue.


CIR was a priority in 2008 for McCain and Obama but the Economy tanked,

CIR is something they CAN fix overnight by passing it in the Congress.

I would say $10K minimum. The jobs will create tax revenue and more jobs from the entrepreneurs.

1) Let the economy "improve dramatically" first. Then use CIR as a means to grow it further. Dont pass the argument that CIR will help the economy get back on track. Thats not going to work.

2) I wouldnt mind the 10k, however i said earlier that it will be a huge burden on people. Getting access to 10k for every family member + lawyer fees etc... will be tough on a lot of people who will have to wait months/years to get papers (imagine if all estimated 11 millionish people applied about the same time).

I think 5k is a better number which a lot more people have access to.

CIR is just as important as the economy. The immigration system has been broken for many years even before the economy took its toll.

They could setup a monthly payment for the $10K with high interest. Let them keep paying monthly but at least legalize them.

I highly doubt they would finance people with high interest rates...thats just so complicated and messy.

CIR is NOT just as important as the economy, at least to the average Joe. I'm sure Joe would be more interested in the fact that they are more chances for him to earn more than to know that his neighbor Maria would become a permanent resident.

The Average Joe/Jane earns low income and collects government handouts.
High skilled workers are immigrants and a lot of them became USC because of that.

There are so many Dreamers with college degrees.

I like your idea. I'd go as far as to say increase the tax rate on CIR applicants for 5-10 years. I wont mind paying an extra 5-10% of my income to become a USC.
