The majority of the majority is a governing principle (not a legal procedure) used by Republican Speakers of the House of Representatives since the mid-1990s to effectively limit the power of the minority party to bring bills up for a vote on the floor of the House. Under the majority of the majority doctrine, the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives will not allow a vote on a bill unless a majority of the majority party supports the bill.

Boehner has said he will not violate this rule to bring the Senate bill to the floor for a vote. He insists on the House working its will on immigration via the Gang of 7 Bill that still has not materialized. Supposedly, it will be released in the next week or two, but that was the update a week ago.

Boehner has called a meeting of all of the Republicans for July 9th. It is more than likely a strategy meeting and we will be 100% sure what route he will take then. IMO, Boehner cannot control his caucus and is damned if he does bring the Senate bill up for a floor vote and damned if he does not. Donors like the Koch Brothers and the GOP establishment (Jeb Bush, Grover Norquist, the RNC, etc) see the importance of CIR, but House Republicans are anti-CIR because they fear being primaried in 2014.

At this point, if CIR passes this year, it will be through a reconciliation process.

I know I am not being positive here, but what if it fails?
What then? What is going to happen to all of us?
Dear god at least they should tackle the wait times, cause
waiting 20 years for a visa is absolutely insane.

And what about the stuff on the overhauling the legal immigraion system?
Do they even care? Come on!

I was reading the they it has:
"The proposal also raises existing annual country caps from 7 percent to 15 percent for the family-sponsored immigration system. "

So if you are in the first preference category of a child over 21 from Mexico the
wait times is going to be 10 years not 20 as it is now?

What if you have already been waiting for ten years?

Shit, I've waited 27 years. If this doesn't pass, life will somehow go on. It wouldn't be the first time I've faced my nightmares come true. I've lost my home twice, faced not going to college when all my friends were going to college and driving, faced not getting a green card after graduating from college, faced losing my driver's license...all of those were worst case scenarios and I'm still here and found a way.

This is the biggest chance for passing that I've seen in the last 27 years though.

Even if it doesn't pass, life goes on. Big thumbs for that. All we have to do is toughen up and make ends meet. No crying.

Good for you man, keep your fucking chin up.

An undocumented could be here since 1/2/1982 and still waiting right? Since the 1986 law required the alien to be here on or before 1/1/1982?
