Those of you who think that a DUI is unjustifiable, how do you feel about Norma’s case? Are you so heartless that you think that she deserves to be deported?

PTSD aside, a DUI is a DUI, even worse in her case, she went full crazy mode on that cop, add alchohol to that and it's a recipe for disaster. She was suicidal, she could have driven down the wrong side of the freeway and injured or killed people.

She is mentally ill and it would be one thing to take her to the hospital to get treatment/a psychological evaluation. They took her straight to jail and then cancelled her naturalization.

Also, I love how you just assume that making a comment that could be construed as suicidal is enough to automatically indict her as a person who will destroy anything in her path. And I don’t think you understand the seriousness of PTSD. There is a reason why it’s such a big deal in society. PTSD breaks people and punishing her for being a victim of PTSD serves as yet another traumatic experience that she likely faced.

Do you really want to blame alcohol for her problems? She drank a few beers. She got into the car before she felt mental unease and hence had total rationality. It seemed like she had done this multiple times before. Drinking a few beers shouldn’t make someone eligible for a DUI. I hesitate to call this a mistake because her mental illness made her act the way she did and she didn’t even hurt anyone. Instead of getting help, she was treated in an unjust way as if she was a criminal.

So what if she has PTSD. Like seriously just because she has PTSD means she can do whatever she wants? She put her own life and others people lives in danger.

Ummm.yes...? Alcohol got her into this mess. Drinking a few beers shouldn't make someone eligible for a DUI? That's the dumbest thing I've heard. A small woman drinking a few beers is much different than a large male drinking a few beers.

Judgy much?

Most of u are so quick to attack anyone not 100% like u or with the same personal story.

A DUI shouldn't end anyone's life.

He did mess up but had he been a citizen his life wouldn't have changed so drastically.

If she had crashed into another car and killed 4 people, then I wouldn’t be defending her. But this was a victimless crime. She was able to make herself to the hospital and because she was denied care, her mental state was still problematic and she wasn’t thinking straight. Anyone in her position would panic and start driving. But even despite the unease, she still didn’t hurt anyone or even come close to doing so.

She entered her car with the intention of driving before she became aggravated. She’s a 28 year old women. Do you really think this was the first time she was making a judgement call on whether or not she was drunk enough to get in the car? As much as you might think that everyone should follow the law religiously, sometimes situations require common sense. She didn’t feel drunk enough and probably had experiences when she had gotten herself home safey after drinking two beers and didn’t think she needed anyone to pick her up from the bar.
You really want to lock her up for years and then take away the one thing that provided some relief from the ptsd: her path to citizenship?

This. I agree with Pianos on a lot of things but I would have to say that if a drunk driver didn’t kill anyone or cause serious injury/damage, their life shouldn’t be over because of a DUI. It’s a mistake. People have their reasons and their lives shouldn’t be ruined and they shouldn’t lose their immigration status because of it. I think fines and license suspension is fair for DUIs that don’t hurt other people.

You can partially thank MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) for these strict regulations and they have definitely worked over the decades that they have been active.

I, personally, support their efforts. Imagine having your life taken away from you from someone's faults thay could have been avoided by personal responsibility.

So let me get this straight, you guys are saying a drunk driver shouldn’t face the consequences DUI does if they didn’t harm anyone or anything?
