Re: Laken Riley Act Amendments: Conditional path to citizenship for DACA receipents
I expressed concerns about Democrats not prioritizing our best interests and only providing empty promises, which some people mocked. Recent events have further validated my concerns. The Democrats have ignored us for years and are now considering passing an anti-immigration bill that could negatively impact not only us, but also others in the immigrant community.
For them to agree to this bill, with only 1 DACA resolution added, which may not even guarantee its permanence, it demonstrates that we are not considered a priority to them and may never be. |

If it does still go to SCOTUS then, I dont think DACA is on the SCOTUS docket from their Fall-Spring '24-'25 term for a ruling this Summer '25. Unless there is something significant from the 5th circuit, SCOTUS will put DACA for oral arguments in Fall-Spring '25-'26 for a final ruling in Summer '26 on the 250th anniversary of America. I could be wrong but that's the expected timeline. |

What to expect from Trump's Day 1 immigration agenda:
1) cancel the CHNV parole processes which have channeled 30,000 people/month into legal channels 2) ban scheduling appointments for lawful entry from Mexico using the CBPOne app 3) suspend the refugee program for 100+ days & cut cap from 125K to 20K 4) impose a visa/travel ban on a dozen countries 5) impose new "extreme vetting" requirements on all countries 6) possibly suspend all visas globally for 30 days 7) declare a national emergency at the border 8 deploy the national guard to the border 9) redirect military funds to build detention camps 10) restart wall construction 11) invoke Title 42 health authority to expel migrants 12) restart family detention 13) declare an invasion 14) invoke the Alien Enemies Act to deport without due process 15) use the military to enforce Alien Enemies Act 16) revoke prioritization of criminals & security threats for deportation 17) let state/local police conduct immigration arrests & deportation 18 restrict federal funding for sanctuary cities 19) conduct public raid in a sanctuary city 20) instruct review of birthright citizenship 21) review of public charge rule reinstatement 22) review of TPS and DACA |

"Finally, ending with some big ones: TPS and DACA. The question for DACA is whether Trump actively tries to kill it or lets the court battle play out to SCOTUS. The questions for TPS are which countries are on the chopping block, and whether he tries to terminate TPS early."

I also have a positive outlook that he won't prioritize ending things for us this time around. For some reason, I am feeling more optimistic this term compared to his last term. Let's stay hopeful and focus on the potential for progress and cooperation. |

But you're right, he didnt heavily campaign ending DACA like he did in 2016-2017 and his recent comments after he got elected kinda calmed my nerves. I dont think legalization is in our immediate future but I do think the program will be left alone for CURRENT AND RENEWALS only. I think the 5th circuit wont completely scrap the program and will leave it to current beneficiaries. But I could be dead wrong in the end... who knows. |
