ofc you should go! if you accrue enough of unexcused absences you there's a chance that you get kicked out of the army plus you'll be accruing SGLI debt. I highly recommend that you go and become friends with other soldiers in the unit.

I thought that you don't accrue any if you are pre-basic? I thought that pre-basic drills weren't mandatory.

it really depends on the unit. my unit doesn't really care about FS going to drills but some do (from what I've heard some were threatened that they would get kicked out if they don't go) as for SGLI idk where you got that info from but it does accrue and it's about $30 per month so do the math from the day you enlisted.

Is this still open? It never crossed my mind that Portuguese would qualify you for that. I'm a Spanish native speaker, but I had a Brazilian GF and learned a lot of Portuguese. The languages are ver similar anyways.

Authorized but has not reopened yet, unfortunately they condensed lot of the qualifying languages for next term, if it ever opens. I think Portuguese was still on there but will have to double check, the main issue right now is there's 4300 people backed up due to delayed background investigations, a complete mess.

Hey K-Man, do you know if the Army publishes something along the lines of a backlog report for these pending background investigations?

Another question I have if anyone knows anything about the third tier background investigation: what is the name of this? I know of NIAC and SSBI, but I've not idea what the third one is called. Has the process been worked out yet?

Thanks y'all!

I don't think they publish anything in detail for the public, all's I know is there's about 4200 - 4300 out of the 5000 enlisted that are still pending due to the third investigation not being in process yet. They're saying it'll be spring/summer of 2017 before it's fully implemented, but not 100%. Supposedly it'll expedite some portions of the process though.

The third investigation is called CI security interview, or (counter intelligence), I'm assuming verifying further into country or origin/connections, etc. since the program has lot of foreign FOB students.

There was a memo that came out today that they're currently suspending 2017 enlistees until this is all resolved, not really news but it's more formal suspension now on any one waiting to join next year. They did however say it'll resume once the CI process is ongoing.

Anyone got a chance to read these?

https://www.ice.gov/doclib/sevis/pdf/bcm-1612-02.pdf

Anyone know what Tier of background check will be done for those who already signed the contract?

Re: MAVNI updates

Oh boy, so after reading that second document I'm worried that I will ACTUALLY ship on time. I was under the impression that I had to be interviewed before I could ship, but it seems that for a path under the Suitability Sequence Map an applicant, depending on country of origin, may be subject to a lighter investigation. For example: NIAC is completed > SF86 is reviewed > DOD CAF investigates the applicant favorably, and then you can ship...

If this is the case, I have 30 days to get off my ass, else I will look like one in BCT.
