if I understand the timing correctly they want to draft the a comprehensive immigration reform bill before the end of 2009 and vote/pass it by early 2010.

It could be very well brought up and discussed. After the recess, it will not be long before they vote on health care reform. Then after that is done, they could go straight to immigration reform.

As for energy related bills cash for clunkers does address some of the concerns.

Well lets be hopefull :D.

Here we go again trying to pass CIR in a election year, its never going to happen! and its not about having "faith" its the reality of what always happens from past experiences. So I don't know why congress and Obama would even bother to get people all fired up for nothing, just pass DREAM/AgJobs as a stand alone bill and stop trying to take it all on at one time and then fail.

^ For the record ECW, CIR 2006 (election year) passed the Senate while CIR 2007 (not an election year) failed in the Senate. If you want to look at "past experiences," there you go.

Come on now be honest, you really think that CIR can pass next year..?

Re: Obama sees early 2010 start on immigration reform

Sure, why not? CIR will be hard to do any time you try to attempt it, election year or no, but if you look at the win/loss record in the Senate, it's 1-1. The only reason it didn't pass in 2006 was because of the House Republican Leadership, who then controlled the House, refused to even debate it. The Republicans have since been swept out of power.

Quit being spooked. It's just a year.

Nothing new,but here is what the President had to say at ~1:19 today with a question from a New York times reporter.
Quote:

Ginger Thompson of The New York Times asks Obama about the prospects for both health care and immigration legislation, and how they might affect mid-term elections.

Obama notes those elections are more than a year away, and predicts "we'll do just fine." Says people will eventually demand changes to a health care system that is not working well.

Also says an improved immigration system is also in the long-term interests of the United States. "I've got a lot on my plate," the president adds, throwing energy and financial regulatory bills into the mix. Acknowledges that political challenges of immigration, including "demagogues" who oppose any path to citizenship.
Anyway,I still think piecemeal has always been the way to go & hopefully at least 60 Senators can agree with that.....

Next year is not a good time, at all. No one could have predicted this fallout when Obama took office in January and no one can even attempt to guarantee majorities in the house and senate next year. It has to happen this year. Worries about this should not be dismissed.
