And thinking everything will be done automatically is incorrect because different agencies use ssn for different stuff. SSA will not send a memo to everyone that has your ITIN on file.

You have to take all of your W2s from all employers. Don't freak out if you can't find one. They found earnings for a couple of years for which I couldn't find my W2s and transferred them over. She told me that I was then going to get a letter on the mail stating what they had done, and that I need to keep that in my records.
