Re: MAVNI updates
My language is one of the languages on the list. How proficiency are they looking for? I can only speak my language but can't read or write.

Re: MAVNI updates
^The proficiency is rated from 1 to 4, they're looking for a 2+ level which is half way up the scale.
It's a speaking test over the phone, 30 min to an hour, they won't examine reading/writing, but it's definitely a structured test where you won't be able to BS your way through unless you're semi fluent in the language/culture (depending on the language) If you can speak it to a point of holding conversations and critical thinking, definitely worth a shot. |

Re: MAVNI updates
Got back from my first weekend BA, I was nominated as a KP (kitchen patrol) on Saturday, hated it but I gained popularity for doing jobs that usually involved 3-4 people by myself - which means I get preferential treatment at the chow time :P, also, Army food sucks no matter if its freshly cooked.
The thing that put me off was the lack of organization in the Army Reserve, you basically go to your unit and get passed around so much. Also, always check your paper work as you may have to do everything twice (like me) make sure to check everything. |
Re: MAVNI updates
^You're currently doing drills (optional) before having been to BCT correct?

Re: MAVNI updates

Finished my Tagalog OPI yesterday, everyone said it was 20-30 minutes of casual conversation, but mine lasted almost an hour!!! Towards the latter part of the conversation, she started to ask me to discuss political and social issues like alternative energy sources, taking care of the elderly, and asked me to make an impromptu formal speech to an imaginary panel about 'defending foreign media influence on the country's development.' WHAT?! At one point, I asked her whether I'm answering these questions from the Philippines' or the USA's point of view... she said, I can do whatever I want, provided I can support my answers... LOL... I find out the result in about 2 to 3 days. I passed my Korean DLPT with a 2+(which had 3 hour reading section, and 3 hour listening section). That DLPT test was definitely harder and longer, but the OPI was still more challenging than I was expecting it to be. Crossing my fingers for that OPI result, scheduled to enlist in the Reserves sometime next week if all goes well. |
Re: MAVNI updates
Dang a trilingual? Just know that if you get more involved/challenging questions, it means they're 'probing' as they're trained to do in order to rate you on the higher side of the scale (I've seen people get 3/3 or even 4's if you're an advanced level speaker)
From what I know casual convo can hump through the 2/2 requirement so you probably have nothing to worry about! |
