1. Order a phase-out cancellation of DACA. 2. Express vocal support for us. 3. State the program was originally an executive overreach. 4. Reiterate that we really terrific people and because of that, congress should act to give us legislation-based relief as it should have beeen to begin with. This accomplishes: 1. The transfer of pressure and responsibility to Congress. 2. Takes us off his plate. 3. Shows (in his POV) how he could have just cancelled eveything, taken our EADs, and deported us, but didn't and therefore, shoes that this decision has heart behind it. 4. Makes most of his base happy since he ends the "Obama overreach in power". 5. Satisfies the AG lawsuit.... I think? That's my bet on his actions, justification, and "logic". |

Re: Trump: 'We love the Dreamers, We love everybody'
have a hard time believing he ends it. people have already went nuts (in a good way) with speculation that it's ending. imagine the backlash he would get for actually ending it? and there will be no grandfathered option, that just doesn't make sense considering there's still ya know a court case and 9 angry white men/woman waiting for us on tuesday that want the program gone. two scenarios: he phases it out (let's permits expire) or he doesn't touch daca and calls out the dems to save the program in court

Re: Trump: 'We love the Dreamers, We love everybody'
I don't think leaving DACA in place to be challenged in court is a good idea: DACA is not law; it's policy. Just like TPS and non-DACA deferred action it is discretionary and allowing a court case to set precedent for this exercise would likely prevent it from being re-enacted by future policy.
What if he ends it; Congress can't get its shit togeter, and he decides to restart the program?? He could not do that if this goes to court because despite the well-intended PR, it's just like DAPA except one gives you an EAD for arriving before 16 and going to school; the other gave you an EAD for arriving by 2010 and having legal or citizen family members. The time for the DreamAct and a solution is now. Congress should get to work. |
