They haven't been able to find a solution for the Dreamers in five months. What makes people think that they're going to be able to come up with parameters for the merit system in a couple of weeks? |

Re: Senator Dick Durbin
Anybody knows what is the age gap to the proposals being discussed? Is it 16 or 18?

Me temporarily being the libertarian1776 of this thread:
Damn. You all need to calm down. I understand everyone is on edge and pissed off about the inaction but attacking each other isn’t really going to accomplish anything besides making others feel even worse. We all have opinions but at the end of the day, the opinions of 536 people (if you don’t count Presidents Kelly and Miller) are the ones that matter. Whether or not family reunification is ended or not is something we have no control over and we’re just going to have to make do with what happens. Also, I highly doubt Dick Durbin will ever come across this thread. |

Really tells you how easily people turn once they get theirs. They don't even have anything and already are trying to say who should be here and who shouldn't. Trumps proposal didn't ask for everify and morons here were calling for it |

2nd Paragraph: Definitely, if you work hard or show that you have academic success, then I would not consider it hypocrisy. If you do not do any of these two things, then you should not be saying anything about wanting a merit based system. For me, it has always been if you work hard or have the talent, then you should be giving a chance, if you do not, too bad. I once proposed here that Dreamer's need to have a GPA higher than a 2.0, and I got killed for it. I said that because of all the Dreamers that I know, about close to half do not even care about school. They would rather work in the jobs that our parent's work in(landscaping, cleaning homes, construction) than go to college or find a decent vocational job. And no on is saying that Dreamer's have to have jobs in STEM, just an AS degree or a good vocational job will do. Same thing with the merit based system, one where if you show that in your previous country you have graduated from secondary school in good standing, and you have a skill(whether you got a degree or show that you have a good skilled job) then you should be able to emigrate. Paragraph 3: I already talked about the bottom half of your comment. For US citizen's, it would not matter if the majority do want a merit based system. Listen, some US citizens will get screwed regardless of what law you put up because that is how it is. With Obamacare, some could not get the same coverage while others got coverage, without Obamacare, some will get better coverage while others will lose it. Paragraph 4: I welcome any immigrant, aged out dreamer, future dreamer that has the drive/talent to want to do well. Also, why do you keep using extreme examples? No one is talking an extreme position where only those who have an IQ of 150, have PHD, will be allowed to join. Or that every immigrant that comes here will cure cancer, aids, solve world hunger. |
