Sounds like the only logical move now is to do the exact same thing we've been doing right? Lol, I mean we can't change the past, and they basically changed the rules and made it retroactive. Yawn, I'll just keep doing what I've been doing and taking tax credits.

Wait, so who's in the clear if this goes into effect? I didn't take any student loans, or college money, nor do I have any kids. I don't believe I've claimed any of the credits?

EITC is almost automatic when you're filing taxes (half the people who get it don't even know that's a thing) unless you started out with a job that paid a lot of money.

Even then, they want to add ACA credit as part of the standard for deporting people. So, unless you've been paying the fines b/c of lack of coverage, you received "public assistance" either through marketplace or employer.

1. White fragility/angst: The Presidency. White people are freaking out that they're not gonna be majority anymore + they found a convenient scapegoat for all their problems. From opioid addiction to their puzzling inability to find well-paying, upper-middle class jobs in spite of their 2.0 GPA high-school level education.

2. Low hanging fruit. They got our addresses, and we can't vote.

3. It doesn't matter if 80% support a path to citizenship. Most of that 80% don't really care whether we get citizenship or deported. It's a "sure, why not?", and not a "Citizenship NOW!!!". Remember how quickly Dems lost support the moment the rhetoric "Dems are shutting down gov't over DACA" was established.

One of the earlier news of this reported by Vox seems to indicate that it is not retroactive.... ???

https://www.vox.com/2018/2/8/1699317...-public-charge

Using any of these for more than six months in the last two years (before applying for a different visa or a green card) would be considered a “heavily weighted” strike against the immigrant. (That strike could be canceled out if an immigrant was making more than 250 percent of the federal poverty level when applying for the new visa or green card — which, for a family of 4 in 2017, was $60,750.)

Immigrants wouldn’t be punished for anything they have already done as of this moment. They’d only be at risk for any services used after the regulation officially goes into effect — which would take several more months (and include a chance for the public to comment on the proposal).
