So, we finally received some kind of notice but not from USCIS. We received this from the NVC:

The National Visa Center (NVC) received all of the fees, forms, and documents that are required prior to attending an immigrant visa interview at a U.S. Embassy/Consulate General overseas.

NVC will work with the U.S. Embassy/Consulate General in SAN SALVADOR, ELSL to schedule an interview appointment for you. Once we have confirmed an interview date, we will send a notice to you, your petitioner and attorney (if applicable).

Nice!

Not sure how long El Salvador is taking to schedule appointments, but probably 3-5 months?

Start gathering all the original documents.

Good luck!

Thank you! I don’t know, but I’m nervous because my husband hasn’t received his waiver approval yet...I’m assuming they wouldn’t schedule it without the waiver being approved first?

Wait until the waiver is approved. I wouldn't risk going there without having the I601-A approval letter on hand.

They do schedule appointments once the ds260 (which is what you're talking about) is complete. If you're scheduled before the waiver is approved you just have to cancel and reschedule.

I did some research and it looks like NVC won’t schedule an interview until USCIS informs them of its decision on the waiver.

It looks like they don’t schedule it before the decision is made. I found some info from the NVC.

The NVC and the USCIS are completely separate entities and they suck at communication with each other. They may, or may not, schedule an appointment before your waiver is approved.

Do not leave the US without that waiver in hand!

This. NVC schedules appointments all the time without approved waivers.

When you say start gathering all the original documents... does it mean all the documentation that was initially submitted with the 601A application? like reference letters, medical records, hardship assessments? Or what documents are you referring to?
