New Co-Sponsors
According to thomas.loc.gov, the Congress' website where you can track bills, as of Tuesday, March 31st, nice Senators have been added to the Senate version of the DREAM act, S. 729.
Here is the list: Dianne Fienstein, D-CA Barbara Boxer, D-CA Jeff Bingaman, D-NM Chris Dodd, D-CT John Kerry, D-MA Robert Menendez, D-NJ Patty Murray, D-WA Bill Nelson, D-FL Sheldon Whitehouse, D-RI So far, we only have two Republican co-sponsors. We need to contact Sen. Brownback to co-sponsor so it is more bipartisan the list. Also, let's contact Sen. Hatch, and Sen. Bennet, both from Utah. Also, Collin, Snowe, Crapo, and yes, McCain We need to have a weekly target. For example, this week, I say we should call Sen. Grassley from Iowa. Juan j. |

Re: New Co-Sponsors
Glad to see both of my Senators on board!
A weekly target would be nice. Something like a swarming of a certain Senator's office one week, and another the next week (or maybe every 1.5 or 2 weeks?) to get them to cosponsor DREAM or at least come on record as supporting it. |
Re: New Co-Sponsors
Well, judging from what i can see, and from the past, we have plenty of time, but we need to move fast.
I say that we can tackle two Senators at the same time. One must be a senator that we know is a supporter, but having his/her name on the list gives us more power/credibility. The other one would be the senator that falls in the undecided/changed votes/new/or now position held. OKay, so who do we start for this week? If you start this week, we must must MUST do this! I need help I can get all the offices info and post them here. Juan J. |
Re: New Co-Sponsors
Let's start with Sen. Casey from Pennsylvania. He was a co-sponsor in 2007, so it shouldn't be too difficult to get him to co-sponsor this time around.
Phone: (202) 224-6324 Leave messages and call tomorrow, please! |
Re: New Co-Sponsors
that's an excellent idea.
|
Re: New Co-Sponsors
OKay so it is. I am posting a new thread
Lets call it the bi-weekly target! Pass the word around ;-) Juan J. |
Re: New Co-Sponsors
i love the idea!! so whose our target this week? browback and casey? and if were gonna do this we need to do it big! we need to pass the word around
|
Re: New Co-Sponsors
Love the idea a senator every week.
|
Re: New Co-Sponsors
count me in on the bi weekly target,
|
Re: New Co-Sponsors
Good idea, I'm in too!
|
Re: New Co-Sponsors
Don't forget the New York Senators, Schumer and Gillibrand. I wouldn't be surprised to see one or both of them cosponsoring in the near future.
There should be an official cosponsorship thread/sticky, and I think there needs to be sticky reform as some of the stickies we have are antiquated or should be moved to other parts of the site. EDIT: Just realized the cosponsorship thread idea can be confusing. I mean an official cosponsorship lobbying thread to get as many Senators to cosponsor as possible and to keep track of who we need to lobby. |

Re: New Co-Sponsors
This sounds like a great idea! We can set small targets and little by little get these senators to sponsor, or at least acknowledge that they are supporting the bill.
Great to know we have 16, we are off to a good start. I just left a message for senator Casey, and will call tomorrow to actually speak with one of his staff. |

IM glad to know feinstein is in, my state CA. Whos next?
Also, when i called otehr senators they asked for my ZIP code and obviously i gave them the zip code from the district BUT then they asked me for my address and phone number, I told them i prefer not to give it out. ARE YOU GUYS getting the same when you call outside your ZIP CODE? |

Sometimes they ask and sometimes they don't. Just say you'd rather not, but make sure you give them a zip code. |
Re: New Co-Sponsors
give them zip 17101 or 17201 or 17257.

Re: New Co-Sponsors
I can't believe Cantwell hasn't jumped on board yet, Patty Murray is a co-sponsor, and Washington State is a pro-Dream act state as far as senators go...
|
Re: New Co-Sponsors
I'm happy to see the new co-sponsors. I'll be sure to do some calling tomorrow.
I can't help by feel much more optimistic this time around guys. I'm going to see how many more of my friends who are Dreamies can help make calls. ;) |
Re: New Co-Sponsors
Hooray for Boxer and Feinstein for jumping on this!
Makes me a little proud to be Californian again. |
Re: New Co-Sponsors
How many co-sponsors are needed for both the Senate and the House?

Re: New Co-Sponsors
^ There's no specific required number. The more the better... We just need that magic 60 number when it comes to vote.
|
Re: New Co-Sponsors
Sen. Schumer and Sen. Burris of Illinois should cosponsor too. Sen. Burris has Obama's old seat, and it'd be nice if Burris followed his predecessor's lead.
|
Re: New Co-Sponsors
senators dont necessarily need to sponsor a bill in order for them to vote yes on it?

Re: New Co-Sponsors
I have a question? Does anybody know when this session of congress ends??
I remember from past session that as soon as Thanksgiving comes around, they always seem to be in "vacations"..I mean recess. |
