Turn ourselves in!

What if we all just turned ourselves in at once? What if we all just stopped working, going to school, paying our bills and turned ourselves in to the authorities?

If I was Canada I would take all the illegals from the US and put them to work. It's modern day slavery if you think about it. Why not take all these people, give them a path to citizenship and exploit them legally? Dumb them down with fluoride int he water, bombard them with entertainment and television and have them work 9-5 jobs? Half-ass educate them in public schools, and tie them down to the responsibility of paying back the money they used to buy useless plastic shit.

Why don't you turn your self in, and go try that? and then tell us how it goes?

I know I wouldn't do it. Some Dreamers don't have the option of going back home because they don't know anyone there, sometimes they don't even speak the language. Honestly, really? Really?!

It would be much better if we could organize to do boycotts - all illegal immigrants and those legal immigrants that support the cause. One week everyone boycotts Wal-Mart, for one full week everyone boycotts Shell Oil, for one week all boycott McDonalds, and so on. America would see just how important and indispensable we all are. This could go as far as boycotting work for a full week - just think how many businesses would have to close! However, most people are unwilling to do this, and without the support of the media, it would be very hard. But on the same note, if African-Americans had not taken extreme measures, who knows how long they would have waited for their freedom. Maybe is time to become radical...

What we would need to do is have major word of mouth. I mean if we called hispanic radio stations and asked them to get word out, it would work! We would need a website JUST for the boycott. To let people know what our cause is and what we're boycotting this week. I mean, it doesn't need to be all 12 million but i needs to be a very decent amount.

lol.. Yeah, there's NO way I would turn myself in.

But the boycotting is a really good idea.. like when everyone didn't go to work for a day or something like that.

It would have to be a lot of people though.. or else, there's not going to be much difference and nobody's going to notice.

It'd be cool if we could boycott like shopping or spending ANY money for one day, not just Walmart. It would make an impact and save us money. :-)

I like the boycotting idea. We could also start an immigrant's wall-mart for all our needs. We buy in wholesale and distribute it. Even if we need to spend a little more, all the profits go to fund the political/social movement.

Re: Turn ourselves in!

Ahh! I was looking for an article about a boycott. It was effective because it was a town. So, people just went outside town to buy gas and groceries. I mean, the bus boycotts organized by Martin Luther King lasted like 2-3 years. Davis boycotted Taco Bell forever and it work! So, for a boycott to be effective must need to be really focus and people have to be willing to sacrifice and help out. It is easier for a town because if Pancho slacks or his car breaks, he can be either help out or held accountable. National and state boycotts are hard to pull off because there is no one to held you accountable if you slack or help out if it is very hard for you to keep going.

This reminds me of the plebians in ancient rome, they were lower class citiziens, probably immigrants and had no rights whatsoever. In time they gather enough influence and power to gain citizenship. From wikipedia:

Quote:

Even so, the "Conflict of the Orders" over the political status of the plebeians went on for the first two centuries of the Republic, ending with the formal equality of plebeians and patricians in 287 BC. The plebeians achieved this by developing their own organizations (the concilium plebis), leaders (the tribunes and plebeian aediles). When the plebeians felt the situation had become dire, they would instigate a secessio plebis, a sort of general strike where plebeians would literally leave Rome, leaving the patricians to themselves.

Re: Turn ourselves in!

Those who are strictly opposed to giving us a legal status say, "I don't care whether they've lived here for five years or ten years. Deport them all! Enforce the laws!"
They say illegal immigrants are "stealing" their jobs.

I'm wondering what would really happen if all illegal immigrants were deported at the same time or in a relatively short period of time (e.g. 1 year) or if they went back to their countries by themselves.

Wouldn't it destroy the U.S. economy, which is already in a serious recession?
The consumer spending would plunge. The farm industry would be destroyed. Some towns would become ghost towns. Businesses in those towns would go bankrupt. State revenues would decline. Millions or billions of tax dollars would be required for the deportation process. Billions of dollars would escape the United States as those leaving the country would take their money back (if they got the chance to do that). The federal and state deficits would skyrocket. The U.S. credit rating would be downgraded. The value of the U.S. dollar would plunge. Mexico and other countries would experience a "flood" of people entering their countries. The whole world would face a total chaos. Of course, the airline industry would experience a "boom" for a while...

Unfortunately i did see that movie, complete crap. A boycott would be great in theory, however it is a bit unrealistic. It has in fact been tried before and people are really apathetic. It's only effective if there is massive participation
