Dream Gains Co-sponsors – 40 in Senate and 124 in House

Quote:

Just in, Senator Bayh from Indiana co-sponsored the bill yesterday. This comes just after four new Congressional Hispanic Caucus members sign onto the bill in the house. We are leading a strong fight, big kudos to all of you fighting everyday for this on the ground. All of your hard work is definitely paying off and you should keep at it.

For details on who is signed onto the bill – and who is not – check out http://thomas.gov. Just search for “dream act”

"House Dems add a week to their August recess"
http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefi...-august-recess.

Democrats announced on Friday that they plan to add a week to their annual August recess.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said that the House would wrap up its work earlier than expected, allowing it to start recess a week earlier than expected.

The change in the schedule means that the House will wrap up for the summer by July 30th.

"The House will complete its business for the July work period by Friday, July 30. There will now be no votes in the House the week of August 2," Hoyer said in a statement. "The revised schedule allows ample time to both continue our work to create jobs, promote fiscal responsibility, and investigate the BP oil spill, as well as have Members in their Districts hearing directly from their constituents."

The official House schedule for the year had called on recess to begin on August 9th. Lawmakers still appear unlikely to return to Washington until after the Labor Day holiday.

It's not clear how this will affect the schedule in the Senate, which has more legislative priorities still left on its agenda.

Both Sens. in my state support DREAM and CIR, but we really need this to be attached as an amendment to another bill *soon*. The goal is to have DREAM passed before the end of July otherwise who knows what excuse will come up between now and September for them to use. And what's the deal with Schumer? I haven't read that he actually supports DREAM as a separate measure...And apparently he was not at the meeting with activists this last Friday. I wonder what kind of backroom negotiation he is doing with the White House.

REPUBLICANS- this is your moment to get Hispanic votes! You're already in the dump for the BP Drill Baby Drill fiasco, why do you continue to commit sepuku aka political suicide?

Out of ~40 cosponsors of the Dream Act 39 are Democrat and 1 is a Republican.

Every single state legislature that has proposed Arizona-like immigration crackdowns has been led by Republicans.

XXXXXXXX. [Mod edit]

Re: Dream Gains Co-sponsors – 40 in Senate and 124 in House

The only Republicans we can really rely on if DREAM comes for a vote are:

Senator Richard Lugar

Senator Sam Brownback

Senator Susan Collins

Senator Olympia Snowe

Senator Bob Bennett

Senator Orrin Hatch

*** They all voted to move it forward back in 2007***

Democrats who are just not going to vote for it are:

Senator Robert Byrd

Senator Max Baucus

Senator Byron Dorgan

Senator Mary Landrieu

Senator Jon Tester

Senator Mark Pryor

I hold out hope that Lemieux and Brown would vote for cloture. Heartless beings if they completely disregard DREAMERs from their respective states of Florida and Massachusetts. McCain is most likely hopeless, but I still ache for the McCain in 2006 who did Co-sponsor DREAM.

I have no words for Landrieu.

Agreed on McCain. In all honesty, I wanted him to win presidency for this reason. Im not a republican by any means, but look at past amnesties and who was president during that. Such a flip flopper.
