Today Senator John McCain, announced that he intended to block the Defense Authorization Bill, unless Senate Democrats strip out the Dream Act, Dont Ask Dont Tell and Secret Hold Amendments.
Jessica Brady of Roll Call has the full story at McCain Threatens to Block Defense Authorization Bill:

The Arizona Republican, who is ranking member of the Armed Services Committee, said Democrats were using the defense measure as a tool to push liberal agenda items in the runup to the midterm elections.

“So I intend to block it, unless they agree to remove these onerous provisions,” he said.

McCain blasted Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) for attaching both the DREAM Act and a proposal to end the use of secret holds in the Senate to the measure. McCain also criticized Democrats for using the defense bill to try to repeal the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy.

Meanwhile, Senator Robert Menendez has indicated that he is currently shopping around an immigration legislation package to Republican Senators. CQ Politics has a story up Democrat Shops Immigration Bill 'with plenty of ideas."

Sen. Robert Menendez says he will introduce broad legislation in the coming weeks that includes a path to citizenship for undocumented residents and an overhaul of enforcement measures.

A lack of Republican support has prevented an immigration overhaul from moving forward this year in the Senate. Menendez, D-N.J., said Wednesday that the legislation “will have plenty of Republican ideas in it” but for now he is still looking for GOP cosponsors.

The senator said he would offer the bill before the end of the current work period, which is expected to wrap up by early October.

We will be following both stories closely as they develop.

I hate McCain:evil::evil::evil:!!

Don't worry about him, he's just playing politics and wanting to appear strictly right wing republican, just keep doing what you can do, I mean opposition to this was a given, its not going to be easy but it isn't impossible

So when he was talking to all those students about the DREAM act he was being real nice and now he's back to being a jerk. Does he easily forget that human lives are attached to this? (I guess at his age, he forgets most things.) But he shows sympathy to dreamer's faces and then turns around and does this.

Dammit McCain!

Oh..... I never expected him to vote for the DREAM Act or the immigration reform after he switched his position on immigration during the presidential campaign. He realized that pretending to be an anti-immigration "conservative" makes life as a Republican much easier than being a "maverick". Even though he supported immigration reform just a few years ago, he is no longer "pro-immigration". I don't think he will change his position even after he gets re-elected. Unless the political atmosphere is "right" for Republicans to support the immigration reform, which won't happen, I don't see him supporting the DREAM Act or the immigration reform.
Let's move on.

but there is no way to pass DREAM ACT without republican support.

Yes, we need some Republicans' support for the DREAM Act, but John McCain's support was never expected. It would be really great if he supported it, but we have to face the reality. He even avoided voting for it a few years ago by leaving the Senate floor, and my research shows that he later said that he would have voted against it if he had been present for the vote.

This video is just an example of how McCain flip-flopped on tax cuts and immigration.

I think they should ask everyone who is against the DA to raise their hand :)

(I am plenty aware that I'm a horrible person)

McCain wants to secure the border first and then he will consider the CIR/DA but he might even vote yes, who knows.

Blah blah blah every time they talk about "amnesty" although I dont think the DREAM is amnesty) they always us ethe border not being secure enough excuse to votee against it. Well how many border security bills have they passed in the last decade? The border is more secure than ever. All that is an excuse! So they can appeal to both sides by not really saying no, but not saying yes either

Either way, it will pass with or without Mccain.

The worst he can do is croak in the middle of voting and have the vote postponed.
