Here's Hoping: Obama says dream act by 2011.

here's a link:

http://noticias.univision.com/inmigr...bama-dream-act

It's in spanish, but you can use google translate to change it for you.

To sum up the key part, Obama said that during the next session of congress, the Dream Act would definably pass.

Here's the first passage translated:

"WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama said Thursday in Washington that during the next session of Congress the Dream Act bill, which would home to thousands of undocumented students with excellent grades in school and who were admitted with less than 16 years United States will be adopted."

Funny... Every time he or some other politician gives it a "definitely" its when they are talking to Spanish television.

He said the same thing on an english network. And by next legislative session does he mean the 112th congress Or november legislative session By 2011 i hope he means b4 2011. fol.

Re: Here's Hoping: Obama says dream act by 2011.

I'm assuming he meant the November session, or at least thats what I'm hoping for.

Btw Task, do you know what English network? I couldn't find it.

Dukem88 10-18-2010 11:17 AM

Re: Here's Hoping: Obama says dream act by 2011.

He must be talking about MTV bc I didn't see any English network reporting this. And even on MTV he didn't straight up say it, he said something along the lines of being "somewhat optimistic".

Who cares what they say anyways. Can't wait around on the word of a politician.

Next session is the lameduck session.

In the same article, it says that Obama made that statement during a questionaire organized by MTV network.

Here is what I see going down

No Dream act vote for this year

Republicans and Tea party take over

2011
Republicans and Tea Party will pass a weird version of immigration reform that only covers border security and all that e-verify system. After certain years they will tackle the people that are already here.

Re: Here's Hoping: Obama says dream act by 2011.

Very unlikely because if Dem were the minority party in Senate, you'll see filibuster for any radical immigration measure.

I dont care what Obama says. He is a lier. Besides its not up to him. All he has to do is sign the bill after the congress has voted on it and it is ready to become law. If it was Bush than we have completely different game. Than we can have two separate wars with two sovereign nations without even congress' approval.

Still hoping and dreaming.

Obama was a 1 issue president. Healthcare reform (which he didn't do to the fullest extend), everything else is just lip service.

Yup, its kind of sad how Obama went from being the great "hope" and "change" that we were all waiting for, to a great disappointment. I have a friend who is a Republican telling me that the only reason why he voted for Obama was because he was pissed of at Republicans and how they fucked up the country, but how he regretted ever voting for Obama. I regret donating my time to his campaign, i regret telling my U.S. citizens family members to vote for him over Clinton etc. And yet he still wants to garner support from African Americans, Women, and the Hispanic community when he has done absolutely nothing to help them. Screw him!

I think he is the biggest disappointment of '10. To me, he just cares about the global attention because he is the first black president, I think he does all these Late night show appearances because he likes the attention and feeling like a celebrity, and also use it as a way to "let people know" that he is like "us" and we can identify ourselves with him, since he is "cool and laid back" but what has he really done that had an impact? I know it's hard to get this country back on its feet in two years but...maybe he can step away from the spotlight as well? Because I see him in all these shows and magazines, but I never hear anything about any strategies, to either "close the borders" or for some sort of "legalization."

You cannot entirely blame Obama because the Republican are to be blamed for being uncooperative and filibustering almost everything in the senate.

I couldn't agree more, if we had divided congress nothing will be likely to pass. If the senate passes something, the house will blocks it. However, any radical measures will also be blocked. If a Democrat majority congress wasn't able to pass the Dream Act, can a divided congress pass it?

Super majority, need i say more? Has he tried to push for DA? Have the Democrats try to push for DA?

Re: Here's Hoping: Obama says dream act by 2011.

He has spoken favorably of the DA, he also appears on english media speaking favorably of the DA, he blocked the most controversial portions of the Arizona bill from taking place, and the democrats voted favorably on the DA attached to the DoD bill, but one may say they did so in attempt to defeat the filibuster rather then pass the DREAM Act, but it was a good attempt, only foiled by the republicans voting no in unison.

The republicans showed that it did not matter whether the democrats are the majority, they had 41 republicans and that is enough to halt a bill from going through.

yeah, I am split, I do not know whether to like the guy for supporting us publicly or hate him with all my guts for not doing more. But then apart from speaking I do not know what else he could do. He will probably not sign an executive order because it might backfire, but he does seem to delegate the jobs to other people and leave them to do as they please.

If he made more and longer appearances around Lousiana during the oil spill and pushed scientists to help with the effort then people might listen to him better, as well as speaking in the senate when they were considering the DoD bill with the DADT and the DA attached then people might have a better view on him and listen to what he has to say more favorably. What I don't get, and this was also present with Bush, is how presidents decide to spend so much time vacationing, and playing around, specially when there is a war elsewhere and their policies are not passing, I would think they would work harder under such circumstances.

I appreciate his support for a pathway to legalization for the undocumented but to be honest, speeches are just not working for me, sorry.

Ditto... every time theirs an article about him expressing his support i don't even bother to read it just because i know its all talk.

You know, i know their was a post about Rahm Emmanuel leaving the white house, but i have been wondering if that will make any difference in his handling of DA or CIR. I wonder if he will be more than vocal, and actually act on something. What do you guys know about his new chief of staff?
