Dream act fails 55-41 :(
The dream act failed guys. 5 votes short. This is the worst news I have received in my life. I'm crying right now. I can't believe these republicans had no heart for us. I don't know what I'm going to do now. :-( I had my hopes up but they're down again :( how do you guys feel?

Re: Dream act fails 55-41 :(
I'd like to thank the 5 democrats that voted against the bill for ruining lives.

Re: Dream act fails 55-41 :(
Well, I'm in the process of petitioning for my visa right now. It's just that the Dream Act would've greatly speed up that process of me having temporary relief and the reason why I wanted it so much.
God speed to those who don't have anywhere else to turn to. I prayed, called, e-mailed, and faxed for this legislation and was glad to be in this fight. I don't regret anything. |
Re: Dream act fails 55-41 :(
pshhtpshht , an education from this country means a lot anywhere in the world, trust me :)

Re: Dream act fails 55-41 :(
We need to unite harder than even before and not just a select few martyrs. This isnt about a DREAM anymore, this is about Civil Rights and a country who stereotypes us as "good for nothing illegals" if we really want this we need to tell every beneficiary to stand up and join the movement.

Re: Dream act fails 55-41 :(

Re: Dream act fails 55-41 :(
I still appreciate Senators Reid, Menendez, and Durbin for all their work. They have so much faith in us and our potential. It must be just as heartbreaking for them as it is for us. I will forever be grateful to them.

Re: Dream act fails 55-41 :(
I've been preparing to hear the bad news for weeks now, so by the time I saw the final votes, I wasn't that depressed. I knew what was coming.
I don't know what's going to happen next. I don't think the DREAM Act will pass anytime soon, so my only option to get legal status is to get married. It's not for me though, so I might have to move to a new country. |
Re: Dream act fails 55-41 :(
Let's all have 5 kids each and make them all vote Democrats 18 years later. 700K x 5 = 3.5 Million votes for Democrats.
|
Re: Dream act fails 55-41 :(
Let's still be grateful for the work of those who keep working to move the bill foward: Reid, Durbin, etc.

Re: Dream act fails 55-41 :(
I just can't stop thinking of despite how much we call, pressure them, tell them our stories, these politicians can not find their own hearts to give us an opportunity to finally be legal in our country, because the US is our country. I'm so disheartened right now. I just can't comprehend how they are able to sleep at night denying honest, hard-working people a chance to provide something great for this country. We are just pest to them. And, we are not, we are people, we are American just not by birth-right.

Re: Dream act fails 55-41 :(

Re: Dream act fails 55-41 :(
I cannot comprehend it either, Happygolucky. I am not one for optimism but there is a shred of hope we can still hang onto. Harry Reid said he would bring the DREAM vote up again for cloture this coming week if it failed today. Four senators abstained today (55+41=96) so maybe he can get their vote plus one more. If that fails, there is still S.3827 as an amendment to the DOD bill. That is one more hand for Harry to play if the DOD bill comes up for a vote before January 5.
My deepest empathy. As I told my senators, “It’s SAD that the DREAM Act has been diluted into essentially a guest worker program with a long path to LPR status. The DREAM Act as previously written (S. S.729) was unfair enough since these young Americans never violated any immigrations laws intentionally. They should have been granted citizenship five years after they were attending school here in the US. That said, they are grateful to receive any morsels of justice which are extended to them. It is in this spirit that I ask you to vote for the DREAM Act in the coming week. Thank you for your support.”. |

Keep moving, we are resilient individuals, a characteristic I know we all share. Heads up will get it soon enough.

Re: Dream act fails 55-41 :(
Thanks to all that voted against, you just took all of our happiness away. Well let's keep living and doing what we do.

Re: Dream act fails 55-41 :(
Shit happens you guys. The majority of you knew already that it wasn't going to pass, now all we can do is move on and try not to kill ourselves.

I've been married 6 yrs to an illegal (in US since age 5) and we have 2 kids now (his mom is even a US citizen now, me and our kids too). I have been to numerous lawyers and none of them can do anything for us and all advised us not to go to MX to file either. The last one we spoke to said that unless the Dream Act passes we are pretty much SOL. This is frustrating as I have no clue what to do anymore and its not as easy as one would think even with being married. :-? |

Anyway, I sure as hell ain't goin' to Juarez, and every lawyer we've seen has advised us not to since he could get a 10 yr ban or something like that. Am I missing something? Does it depend on the lawyer? |

& his sis) was filed way before I met them. Thats why she kept telling us we didnt have to go to MX because she was able to fix herself with just the $1k fine. She says she can't do anything with her original filing since he got married now (hinting we/he screwed up). |
Re: Dream act fails 55-41 :(
theres not enough words that can explain my disappiontment. Now i am left with a decision on wheather i stay or go back home, but if i stay how much longer do i wait. On the other hand, i would hate to go and it passes in a couple of months. What to do? God please help me

So they stayed here, his mom ended up getting a green card and she just became a citizen around 2002/3 then files for them (my husband and his sister). My husband and his sister have both been here since ages 5 & 3 and are still illegal now. Its stupid really, his mom is now a citizen, we're married (me & our 2 kids are all US citizens) and his sister is also married to a US citizen with 2 kids from US as well. The last lawyer we went to said post Apr 2001 there really isn't anything we can do but pray for some law to go into effect (Dream Act or something similar). All lawyers have advised us not to go to MX and I definitely will NOT go to Juarez (where we'd have to go anyway) if I can help it. |
Re: Dream act fails 55-41 :(
Oh sorry, he was about 20 when she petitioned for him because he got married once he was 22 and she said he messed up. Im not sure how all that works.
