1 million dreams march?????
How hard would it be to organize a million dreamers for a march in D.C?

Though, it does have its considerable strength through numbers and would make one epic statement |
Re: 1 million dreams march?????
I think it's possible.
But it needs to start right now, and maybe make it on Immigrant Day (May 1st) so more people would march. |
Re: 1 million dreams march?????
ohh he meant 1 millions dreams march, not one millions dreamers.... that changes everything... the logistics of organizing 1 millions dreamers would be insane, but a 1 millions dreams march would not be a bad idea.

Re: 1 million dreams march?????
Honestly, I think this could be a great idea.
We can have a speech a la "I Have a Dream" and get the DREAM Act more attention it needs for the public to know our situations. This is our lives we're fighting for and I could see this as the final push that the DREAM Act needs. |
Re: 1 million dreams march?????
I would participate EXCEPT that I can't get out of this shithole haha man it sucks that we can't even drive :(

Re: 1 million dreams march?????
I'm down let's plan it.

Re: 1 million dreams march?????
Yea, can we sticky this so more people can see and spread the word?
|
Re: 1 million dreams march?????
I have always pictured a march like that, like what MLK did for civil rights with his march at the washington monument. It's really difficult to organize something like this without a coordinator and I'm no leader, but should someone take up the task and organize one, I'll definitely be there.

Re: 1 million dreams march?????
Mods sticky please
|
Re: 1 million dreams march?????
So what would happen if all 12 million undocumented immigrants protest in front of the white house?
|
Re: 1 million dreams march?????
They pass CIR, do you know how insane that would be, 12 million people is a big crowd, and that's the understatement of the century. I truly believe if that could be accomplished that something will happen-good or bad.

D.C. Has like 600k people. So yeah. Big crowd is indeed a very big understatement. |

I don't know who would be a good speaker for that, perhaps someone new but who is an eloquent speaker and great representative of what can be done. |

Re: 1 million dreams march?????
Yeah we need a DREAMer who is ready to give a speech to end all of our sufferings.
The recent policy change will allow more DREAMers to march who were before afraid of being deported, it's a huge momentum for the DREAM Act. |

Just no Mexican flags this time, okay, please?

Re: 1 million dreams march?????
I've been saying this for years. It's hard but not impossible. Even if there were 100,000 it would still make a huge impact and we would take notice.
Just keep in mind, many DREAMERs are under really tough economic circumstances, and their problem would be getting to and staying in DC. |
Re: 1 million dreams march?????
A good first step would be getting in contact with the smaller organizations in the local level who are seasoned in some level of activism such that they could start coming up with their own individual plans on how to do this. They could seek the resources or get dreamers that are willing to foot their own bill.
Start setting up national conference calls to bounce ideas around on how to make this a reality There was an attempt by theniya.org to create the sort of national communication network with organizations all over the country, usually holding monthly conference calls under their get active program, perhaps that could be a good way to reach the necessary interest and momentum from activists to make this a reality. |
Re: 1 million dreams march?????
it's funny how if undocumented people knew that they can get legal by coming out to DC all of 12 million people would come out. But, in reality, they're not...

The estimate a while back was that the US government spends about 20k per person deported, if through the actions of an entire community the cost becomes several times higher as they have to spend time and resources responding to tens of thousands of e-mails, faxes, calls, disruptions and considerable distrust in the entire community, then they are probably more likely to avoid such cases. They have to demonstrate they are not mismanaging money or spending more than estimated, and when a group of people disrupt a bus from leaving a compound filled with people to be deported and people are arrested it increases the cost across the board. If a hundred thousand came out in support of the dream act in one spot it could create the sort of powerful statement to discourage action against such a movement. |
Re: 1 million dreams march?????
This is an awesome idea and great discussion. Really hope we can organize something like this. I would be there in a heart beat. If I had the opportunity, I would fast too until they pass the damn bill. The point here is that people are the main power...the more people that show up in the rallies and the more it lasts...the better our chances. But there needs to be one uprising where EVERY undocumented person should be involved. It would obviously take major planning and organization but seriously this seems only option now for CIR advocates. DA still has a chance but CIR is completely dead. Would love to see what the effects would be if every undocumented person stops work for just one week.

Re: 1 million dreams march?????
How can we start organizing this?
Anyone experienced in doing this kind of stuff? |
Re: 1 million dreams march?????
We would have to get in contact with the major pro-immigrants organizations. Can any one provide a list ?
