Front-runners clash over immigration in CNN debate

Newt Gingrich called for a limited amnesty for longtime illegal immigrants who meet certain criteria; Mitt Romney labeled amnesty a magnet for illegal immigration.

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com...ate/?hpt=hp_t1

What did you guys think of the GOP Debate?

Newt is the new front runner and is now entering into the immigration debate as the "humane but not stupid" contrary to Rick Perry.

I personally found Newt's responses very delusional, he spoke about the pathway very clearly. He is proposing that for those who have stayed here for over 25 years, paid taxes, and are members of a "Church," be awarded a pathway to residency in the U.S. He is trying a new approach to all those evangelicals. If he didn't mention the "church" requirement, I would agree with him, but it seems he is just promising with no future to me.

Newt is trying to be a pragmatist on the issue. He does have insane ideas, but he is trying.

So guys, let's hope that either Newt or Perry win the nomination. I don't think Huntsman has a chance.

Was not expecting that from Newt. He isn't going to win, but at least he can bring a little bit of sanity to the stupid republican primaries.

Newt says "And I'm prepared to take the heat for saying 'let's be humane and enforce the law without giving them citizenship but by finding a way to create legality so they are not separate from their families."

For the first time a politician has said lets compromise and then he adds his requirements, quarter century, church going haha ..... And again he became insane. I want Newt to get the nomination and make strides in the polls which forces Obama to say something and try something other than the blame game. Thing is Obama presidency has been in the lame duck since its second year simply because the Right sees that beating him will mean dismantling his idea "CHANGE" from within. They have done it on every single issue and it wont stop until hes gone.

In the end, I feel Romney will win the nomination since he is the only one that is able to beat Obama in 2012. Although the primaries do seem a little insane at times. Pic Related

I want one of the crazies (Cain, Bachmann, etc...) to win the nomination, easy win for Obama.

It's all bullshit and we know it, if Newt was the speaker of the house he'd be worse than Boehner.

Oh dude, I agree with you. I am surprised Newt is even coming off as a moderate.

At this point, anything that Bachmann or Perry say is irrelevant. We'll be shitting gold before they win the nomination. It's going to be between Newt and Mitt. And Newt, if he doesn't do a major gaffe, can edge Mitt out. And Frankly, I hope he does. Obama needs to feel the heat of genuine competition to get off his ass, and do something major. I like Huntsman but nobody even knows him.

None of this matters. Obama will win it easily.

wtf... who wants to live here illegally for 25 years and how the hell are we suppose to survive for that long? I would hate to be a newbie when I'm in 40's when I get a job....

^ this

so, since I got here at the age of 7, I would have to wait until I am 32 to start applying for legal status, in the meantime the education I got would become outdated and there would be no choice to join the workforce in probably an area that is of little assistance to the economy of this country? Unless I can find the way to afford more years of education, but my field tends to change very fast.

when you start requiring such large numbers before applying all that you are accomplishing is getting people closer and closer to an age group where they would be very unlikely to contribute to the society in any significant manner, as they get closer and closer to an age or retirement. Additionally... 25 years, holy !@#$, a million things will happen with politics over that period of time.

The reason I do not leave this country and have my parents petition me is because there is no way to guarantee that a decade from now the immigration laws would be the same to the extent that I would be able to enter legally through my parents petitioning me, or even worse, the same thing that happened to my parents could happen to me, and that is the lack of understanding that we are mortal being, we procreate, create a family and eventually expire.

I would have to make a 10 year commitment to place my life on hold and not marry, or have children; forced celibacy, sounds silly, crazy, funny yet sad. lol / :-(

I still have some years of schooling to go, and more opportunities to explore, I think I will stay for now.

I think he just gave out a number to prove his point. Maybe 15 to 20 years would suffice. Also, if elected, I am quite sure congressional democrats would also slam him about a 25-year requirement and feed him a bearclaw with extra frosting.

^This. Look over the Kriebel plan. It's interesting stuff, especially if it's what Gingrich really wants to work off of.

Oh I need to read that plan. Newt mentioned that word, Kriebel, like 1,000 times. I was like: "What about Gremlins?"

Isn't Kriebel an official worked as director of ICE under the Bush administration? If so, the guy is such a pragmatist.

I'm not surprised by it. I think someone on DAP predicted that the Republicans would put forth ideas like this. I could understand saying 10 years or even 12 years, but 25 years? Seriously? And they would probably want us to prove that we'd been in the U.S. every single day for those 25 years.

Don't forget Santorum lol.

Pawenty had the right mind to drop out since he left his state in utter ruins while he was governor.

Seriously, out of all the GOP contestants, Huntsman is the most logical out of all of them. Which isn't saying much. Paul wants to get rid of all government run operations (FDA, EPA, etc etc.). Romney flip flops as usual and can barely hold on to conservative support which he really needs. Perry is just...lol. Who else is left?

Oh yeah the flavor of the months Bachmann and Cain. Gingrich falls in line with the rest of the above.

If I had to pick, I would pick Huntsman too, but he does not seem to be a likely winner of the GOP primary. :- (

I just read something on Newt's red card plan. So, it basically means giving work visas to undocumented people who are not felons? ugggggggghhhhhhhhhh The plan needs to be improved because what will happen if a person with a red card loses a job?

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/...9coN_blog.html

Damn it Newt. Still, he is trying . . . And it's better than Romney.

Smooth 11-24-2011 01:11 AM

Re: Front-runners clash over immigration in CNN debate

Guys,

Please watch the video in the link above. The Red Card program is stupid. Many people will still run the risk of being separated from their families if they cannot find a job. Plus, it's like Americans saying, "We'll use you, but you cannot be considered one of us." Screw Newt. If the GOP will not fully accept us members of American society, let the damn economy go down in flames. What Newt is proposing is like the bracero program all over again. Can you guys imagine yourselves with one of these damn cards?

Obama would bury this bastard in a debate. I take back any hope I showed for Newt.

These guys and their stupid ideas. They probably sniff Bachman's rear-end backstage before every debate. Why don't they just admit that CIR is the most pragmatic solution to the problem. We're here you damn GOP retards. You're never going to get rid of us; now admit it.
