MAVNI direct citizenship military program
http://www.visapro.com/immigration-a...s/?a=1350&z=29
TPS and refugees are included too, idk if us are eligible to apply too? Anyone heard of this before? |
Re: MAVNI direct citizenship military program
Yes we have, the program is currently closed, unknown if they will allow daca recipients in.
Anyways, not news. |
Re: MAVNI direct citizenship military program
The Pentagon covered the skills shortage during that time period and currently the US is winding down the wars so I am not sure if there is any reason to re-open the program in the short term.

Re: MAVNI direct citizenship military program
I've read up on it and I'm pretty sure it requires that we have been here legally for at least 2 yrs or something. And it also requires you to speak a native language. Since most of you here just speak spanish, and since spanish isn't listed as a qualifying language, most of you don't qualify anyways. Just my two cents.

Re: MAVNI direct citizenship military program
The program's actually open since May last I heard. The thing is that it's so selective that we're not likely to hear from many people who get in. It's worth a shot checking if DACA recipients could qualify two years from now (since Rev_Scholar is right about the 2 year legal status requirement).

Re: MAVNI direct citizenship military program
Ok,Just did some more checking via google and the program has been closed since last year Dec. 2011 BUT there is a rumor that the program has been reinstated since Sept. 27th,2012 and have yet to be announced by the Pentagon.
It should be interesting if they list DACA applicants as being eligbile for the MAVNI process. |
Re: MAVNI direct citizenship military program
No the reason why I brought this up is because on the news today they reopen the program
|
Re: MAVNI direct citizenship military program
In my case I speak Chinese, and it's listed up here

Hmm.. http://www.defense.gov/news/mavni-fact-sheet.pdf
Not sure. Anyway. Best way to find out is to inquire with a recruiter from the Army, Navy, or Air Force. Army's probs your best bet. |
Re: MAVNI direct citizenship military program
Yeah til may 2014, I will follow up on this matter in the next few days
|
Re: MAVNI direct citizenship military program
I just saw this document over at Mavni.info but it doesn't look like DACA applicants are listed and therefore may not be applicable even if they meet the 2 year requirement.

Re: MAVNI direct citizenship military program
Mavni is hard to qualify for. Even once you get past all the initial things, are you still fit enough (medically and physically) to pass boot camp? All in all, most of us (if not all) don't have much of a chance. We have a much better shot at the DA passing- which I hope will happen soon.

Exactly, it's a possible path.
There's no need for discouragement, we're all here to learn. |

I would enlist in the Air Force in a heartbeat.
|
Re: MAVNI direct citizenship military program
Oh jeez, I was hoping Italian or Portuguese would be in there.

Re: MAVNI direct citizenship military program
Remember it is not enough to simply speak the language. You must have the cultural background to be able to qualify for that portion of the program.
Also the military generally requires a continuous legal presence of about 2 years prior to enlisting. This doesn't mean a green card, etc. It applies to TPS, etc. So yes it is hard to qualify in the sense that meeting the requirements is tough, not that you guys don't have the courage or drive to qualify for it. Hopefully the DREAM Act passes, so that those of us that want to join the military to gain Residence/Citizenship can do so, and soon. |

Re: MAVNI direct citizenship military program
Guys, let me tell you - I signed up for MAVNI and I was contacted recently about it and had to fill out a questionnaire. After I submitted the answers, the guy messaged me back saying I wasn't qualified because I don't speak another language D:
So it looks like they are still recruiting people that are qualified, just on the down low! |
Re: MAVNI direct citizenship military program
Interesting they are keeping it open, discreetly.
I qualify the program, but I'm a bit annoyed that they dont have my health profession listed in the Officer pilot section, which would've been wonderful. Which means I have to go in as one of the enlisted jobs, then put in a request for transfer to Captain position in the Air Force once I am citizen in like a month. Pain in the ass. |

Re: MAVNI direct citizenship military program
i know some people that enrolled in the military as undocumented, but this happened when troops were being deployed by the bucket load to the middle east. I guess all depends how you talked to the recruiting officer and how well you sell yourself.

Re: MAVNI direct citizenship military program
DACAs are not eligible to enlist in the US military (yet). The Pentagon has to authorize the DACAs to enlist, and that has not happened yet. MAVNI requires a person to be in a lawful status for at least two years on the date of enlistment, and by the time any DACA has two years of legal status, MAVNI will be closed again (it is only open now temporarily for two years, until September 30, 2014). Also, "deferred action" is not a status that allows for a MAVNI enlistment. You will hear a lot of wrong information from military recruiters; the Marines especially seem confused about DACAs. But every military recruit now has to undergo a DHS check before enlistment, and DHS is not supposed to approve any DACAs to enlist. Here is an accurate article that discusses the situation of DACAs: http://www.bostonglobe.com/news/poli...XbO/story.html

Re: MAVNI direct citizenship military program
If you want more information on MAVNI, check out the MAVNI Info Forum (you can find it on Google). And yes, Portuguese is a MAVNI language. So is Haitian Creole.
