What if you are not DACA qualified? You're not allowed to enlist under this act?

I believe it said anyone residing over 2 years.
I am not big on the military but if this passes it will be another possibility for moving forward.

Anyone residing for just 2 years can apply? Then they would become Citizens? That was sudden...

Its aimed at DACA kids

Current law states that any individual who legally enlists and serves in the military for one year is naturalized. During wartime the naturalization is immediate. My bill would extend this benefit to DACA individuals.

Quote:

All enlistees, upon joining the military, incur an eight-year service obligation. Naturalization only becomes final and irrevocable after five years of honorable service.

"The bill will allow persons who have resided continuously in the United States for at least two years, and those classified as Deferred Action Child Arrivals by the Department of Homeland Security, to enlist."

So....must have lived in the U.S. for 2 years, under DACA, to be eligible to join the military?

Yeah, it sounds like they're saying anyone that has lived here for at least 2 years can join, which is weird.

ill do anything at this point to get citizenship from the US, even if it means to put my own life on the line. Shit went down from where my parents came from, so if i can get this and sponsor my parents ill do anything.

TRUE. Our parents risked their lives to come here. The least we can do is risk our own to help them and at the same time fix our status.

I hope the DA passes, but if this is our only opportunity then I say we take it and make the most of it...

(I just hope the military people don't treat us like shit)

Shiiieett. I like this country but I'm not IN LOVE with it THAT much.... I'd serve to get my citizenship, but not just for the hell of it or to "defend our freedom"

5 years seems too long in my opinion though.

Everyone that enlists does so for 8 years. Some do 2 active duty and 6 reserves. Its not any different than enlisting normally

Pianoswithoutfaith 02-07-2013 12:44 AM

Re: The military enlistment act is gaining support !

except normally people have a status

I personally would not go through this route. Keyword personally

For the most part status is meaningless when youre in. However, I believe I read that you get status early on so you can advance through ranks. Also It says citizenship would be revoked if 5 years arent met

Or you're are discharge, not honorably

What I meant to say is that the wording indicates that you should already be a citizen
