Senators eye higher visa fees to pay for border security, other parts of bill
I guess it is time to start saving if the Gang of 8 intend on making the fees for legalization potentially high.

Well lets start throwing the numbers then. I think anything over $3,000 per individual would be totally absurd. First of all, DACA beneficiaries should not be fined any more. They should be immediately awarded Green Cards. But the rest of the individuals should expect to pay between a grand and 3 g's as a fine. Furthermore, they should expect to present proof of payment of taxes of EACH year they have been present in the United States. Can't wait until this bill is released.

Word around the kitchen is it's gonna be released this week, keeping my fingers crossed lol I'm not even in a rush for a GC or anything, I'm just curious to see what's in it lol although I'd love to be a permanent resident tomorrow :D thinking of applying for the Navy

Great news. I think $10,000 per person is fair as long as it will help pass.

C'mon DA User, what kind of optimism is that from you? 10 grand? C'mon. I can imagine the thoughts of lawyers around the country at the sight of 10 grand. We might as well buy them condos. |
Re: Senators eye higher visa fees to pay for border security, other parts of bill
10k, come at me..

Re: Senators eye higher visa fees to pay for border security, other parts of bill
Sounds like DA User is willing to pay anything to get some sort of relief. Cant blame him though

Re: Senators eye higher visa fees to pay for border security, other parts of bill
How many of us illegal immigrants know their fellow illegal immigrants who can afford 10k a head? I know I don't.
Anything larger than 3k~4k is approaching the realm of "Well, we don't want to legalize them, but we gotta pass something so..." |

As far as the proof of tax filings, that may be rather difficult for some people to present if they were working in cash the entire time they have been here and they didn't have an ITIN/SSN to file taxes. So, I think they may give people the period of interim status to get caught up with the IRS and deal with anything they may owe. Quote:

How about this? The higher an undocumented is willing to pay, the faster the path to USC? Quote:

Re: Senators eye higher visa fees to pay for border security, other parts of bill
Honestly if it ends up being 10 grand I'd still do it, I love this country too much and I don't plan going back to a place that I do not even know anything or anyone.
Obviously, if its lower thats even better :). I really just want a peace in my mind and not have the fear of hiding. |

So, if I chuck at them $50,000, I can become USC as soon as next month? |

Re: Senators eye higher visa fees to pay for border security, other parts of bill
10k a person? are you guys serious? i probably know like 2 people that would be able to pay that and that's it. the fine wont be extremely high because you don't want 10 million people to stop spending in other things when the country has been struggling with consumer confidence ratings. or should we slow down the economy eve more? remember its 10 or 11 million people not just 100 k

Re: Senators eye higher visa fees to pay for border security, other parts of bill
I don't think it's as high as $10k because the Hispanic lobbies would point out that it would cause many people to remain illegal but I have $10k ready in my warchest plus lawyer fees. I'd imagine for Dreamers they won't have to pay nearly that much, but then, old dreamers will get screwed again.
I think a lot of people will be doubletaxed though because they probably use someone else's SSN and won't admit it in fear of getting the other person in trouble. |
Re: Senators eye higher visa fees to pay for border security, other parts of bill
i say 5000 tops for everything, fines, taxes, etc....
