RNC ups Immigration Reform Pressure On Congressional GOP — But Rejects Pat

Exclusive: RNC Ups Immigration Reform Pressure On Congressional GOP — But Rejects Path To Citizenship

Quote:

The Republican National Committee passed a resolution Friday calling on Congress to pass an immigration reform bill by the end of the year—but it stopped well short of the bipartisan compromise passed by the Senate earlier this year, omitting a “path to citizenship” for any class of illegal immigrant.

The resolution calls on Congress to create a special legal status for illegal immigrants brought to America as minors—or “DREAMers,” as immigration activists call them, for the eponymous bill to provide them legal status—which would include a renewable five-year work permit. They would have to provide proof of employment or enrollment to retain the status.

For illegal immigrants who came to the United States above the age of 18, under the plan advocated by the RNC they would be eligible for two-year renewable work permits, but no path to citizenship.

It also calls for the completion of a border fence and increased law enforcement patrols.

The measure puts the core of the Republican Party at odds with the Senate Gang of Eight legislation that passed with the support of a broad array of Republicans, and was spearheaded by lawmakers including Sen. Marco Rubio and Sen. John McCain. President Barack Obama has said that any immigration reform bill must include a path to citizenship.
The resolution can be found here:

We're going to end up with CIR. I just think there's going to be the "indirect path to citizenship" where people can adjust status after the "probationary period" through existing channels which will be difficult.

Wow. So, they're in favor of Deferred Action for everyone? That really solves the problem. President Obama can do that on his own. But since he's gotten the go ahead from the RNC, they won't cry if he has to resort to this due to Congressional inaction.

With the changes to the current system under the Senate bill, that will be next to impossible for people who do not have a U.S. Citizen Spouse, Son/Daughter or an employment based petition.

I'd like to see the numbers on undocumented parents with USC kids nearing 21 who can petition for their parents within the next two to eight years.

Initially I was against such a thing. But this "no path to citizenship" might just work. And it would allow the others who are not able to make use of DACA to get their lives back on track in the meantime.

Afterwards I'm sure it will be challenged. Especially if it comes with some trigger that can not be met. There is no way hell that the U.S. government will just make millions of people purposely illegal again. It would be a disaster to everyone. All those workers would become unemployed and their U.S. citizen families would suffer.

That and once all these people get a taste of it, they will want more. The activists won't disappear, the opposite will happen even. They will be in legal status and less afraid of being detained thus more empowered to protest for more rights.

I'd take some deferred action. Where do I sign up? That would solve my problem for the time being then my family sponsorship will kick in some time within the decade but I know there are people who will have no way to get that. Remember though, there will be other congresses in the future.

Yeah I think there has to be a path, or the GOP will continue to face issues with minorities because the activists won't go away, they will just push more and more.

I need to read more of this because I feel like this could potentially create a second class, which is obviously better than being undocumented (duh), but the devil is in the details

If you look at the dynamics such a thing would never pass the Senate.

Being second class for a few more years is better than having no class.

This sounds fine to me since we get legal status (instead of simple lawful presence given by DACA) and ability the ability to travel abroad. But Democrats will not let this pass. Once again both parties playing politics without truly wanting to pass anything.

Spend 5 more, just spent 6 hours trying to predict if you'll find it or not and after a long hard predicting session, I concluded that you will find but not read it and we will get a 25 and under reform :)
