Goodlatte promotes patent bill, says immigration still on agenda

.......On a separate issue, Goodlatte said political fallout from the recent partial shutdown of the federal government won’t keep him from working to change the immigration system. Some House Republicans complain Obama refused to negotiate over the shutdown and raising the debt ceiling, which they say hurt chances for a compromise over giving legal status to 11 million people in the country without permission.

“This continues to be a problem that needs to be solved,” Goodlatte said. “We are a nation of laws, and respect for the rule of law is important, but we’re also a nation of immigrants and it’s important for people to recognize that part of our society and economy is very, very important.”

Goodlatte said he expects at least four more immigration-related bills to come through his committee, and a fifth to move through a different panel. Finding broad bipartisan support remains a challenge, he said.

House Republicans have rejected the Senate-passed immigration plan and are instead demanding tighter security at the border and stricter enforcement of immigration laws before they’ll consider legal status for those already here.

Goodlatte said the committee members are working on proposals to deal with children brought to the U.S. illegally by their parents, low-skilled immigrants who don’t work in agriculture, abuse of the system for granting political asylum to refugees, and legal status for some of the 11 million.

I'm still waiting for them to actually come out with the bills. He said the same just a few months back.

Re: Goodlatte promotes patent bill, says immigration still on agenda

Obama had negotiated with Republicans on the previous debt ceiling, and that didn't stop them from shutting down the government and trying to defund ACA. This time he accepted the $ 900 billion something budget that Republicans offered instead of the $1.2 trillion he asked. House Republicans in general have no intention on passing CIR, they didn't want to do it before the shutdown, they still don't want to do it after, regardless of what Obama did.

The only way for CIR to pass now is through a complete defeat of Republicans in Congress, either in 2014 or 2016.

I know about trolling and He's obviously a troll and it surprises me people still reply to him or even acknowledge his existence. Even if he was real he still has nothing valuable to add to this site, why not just ignore him 100%?

That is exactly what I'm thinking. I completely ignore, jumps over his comments, I can't understand why some people are so fascinated by him that they keep edging him on, even to the point of imitating him. It felt like a cult.

Feature request, we should have a option in our setting to ignore/filter out certain member.

Good God, you guys. Each time he says, "it'll pass this or next month" you guys get mad beyond belief. Every time someone then says, "You know what? Why can't we just ignore that troll? He's obviously a troll." And then it keeps happening every month. You know, I'm starting to admire his trolling skills, goddamn.

I have read lot of positives news lately on CIR and it has taken center stage. Infact, CIR is getting more attention than Obamacare now.
