Lol pathetic non existent president. No wonder Osama has been called thr Oblamer. Very weak foreign policies and he had one chance to correct a policy that he pledged to do since day one but still delayed it and blamed it on something.

He's not wrong about the "border crisis". That was red meat to conservatives. All it takes is for Conservatives to run ads showing hundreds of thousands of kids coming at the border with the big words: "Invasion" and the Democrats could lose a few seats. Before calling him names, maybe ask your Hondurian buddies why they wanted to F*ck a stranger in the A$$ and sending their kids here with their sad (and untrue) stories of having death squads after them when they knew exactly what they were doing.

Leave the kids out of this.

Violence, is behind the surge of humanitarian migrants. Not that poverty isn't correlated with violence.

We can just say that thanks to the ISIS thing, they fear some terrorist might sneak through Mexico/USA border

You'd think that should be an argument for, but no, republicans are okay with the possibility of muslim extremists sneaking into US as long as no illegal gets a green card.

In my opinion Obama should say: "The planned reform does not cover you, you jumped the fence in hopes of gaming the system" and give them a speedy removal. Harsh but you have to put your foot down. Ignoring these kids as a problem just fucks everyone else over.

I honestly don't blame Obama for this. It's easy for us to start blaming him but things like this are not as easy to implement. He's already taking shit for DACA from the nutjobs. Let's maintain little more patience. I keep telling this to myself. I honestly think this latest ISIS threat has a lot to do with this delay. People in this country are just NOT WILLING to see how dangerous it is not to have CIR. CIR would result not only in legalization but completely security of our borders. By not implementing CIR, we're just making ourselves vulnerable to terrorists entering the southern border. SO FRUSTRATING!

I think it has to do with the majority of undocumented being brown Latinos. I'm telling you, if these kids or the undocumented population were mainly European white, the reform would have already taken place.

No offense to Europeans.

You're absolutely right. We wouldn't be having this problem now if the face of undocumented immigration is a white, blond, blue-eyed child.

Of course this is a racial issue. Why would the white men in power in America legalize millions of brown and yellow immigrants and make it harder for them to hold on to their positions?

They didn't harm you. Or did one of them sneak over to your house, stab you, and run off with your life savings?

Our existence "harms" those legal migrants and Americans who compete for the same jobs as us. We lower their wages, slightly. Should they therefore be against us staying? Of course not. They have no right to their jobs, and in the aggregate they still benefit economically.

These children may have changed the political calculus involved in the current immigration debate, but we have no right to have politics go any specific way. If you look at the data this 'surge' of children has been occurring since the early Obama administration, and would have likely occurred under a McCain or Romney administration. These children did not come here to harm you. They came for a better life.

One cannot be blamed for abstract harm they cause others. It is fortunate this is the case or we'd have people being sued for being ugly!

Well, the majority of people don't think people like you are in this messed up situation. You'd also get more love if your eyes were blue lol. I've often wondered what life would be like if I were white with blue eyes. Reminds me of Louis CK. I'm sure you get plenty of love unless you are not hollywood attractive.

Count your blessings at least you are not ugly, old, and with a receding hairline like me. The only thing I have going for me is my brain and my sexy Cinnamon skin color that shines like Cinnamon toast crunch under the sun.

Oh they didn't harm me? Why is it that they are now considered to be here legally and I'm not? Why is it that there was going to be an announcement on executive orders in June and as soon as June came around, they all showed up asking for permisos? Whether they planned on it backfiring or not, the fact is that created a crisis. I'm not running for office so I don't need to be politically correct - these kids screwed us over and now they have their nice little parole cards and enjoying their free living quarters and meals and planning on bringing in the rest of their families.

Look at the data again. The 'surge' started in the early Obama administration, long before DACA was announced. Its the media that is portraying it as a new thing because it was a slow newsweek.

Its like the Syria crisis. That has been going on for years and only gets attention when we got nothing else to look at.

The delay occurred because Obama wants to give senate democrats better odds in the midterm elections. This thing about the kids is just a political excuse.

yeah I think brown hating is dumb, But then again when people were migrating from europe here they weren't treated as nice. Specially the Irish.

Well, things have changed and discrimination has itself morphed into a beast that is difficult to identify. Let me give you a quick example. Back in the 1800's employers used to time their employees when they went to drink water or use the restroom. Today, that would make a company look really bad, so instead they have other forms of doing the same thing via productivity measures or the like. So yes, you might not see the discrimination as overtly as before, but that does not mean the discrimination is not there or that it has somehow subsided.

I have witness the discrimination in my own personal life and I didn't even want to believe it was discrimination because I thought that we, as a society, were over it. Just two weeks ago I was in Las Vegas. My parents were having snacks at the VIP lounge and they were told that they didn't belong there as that was for VIP members only. My dad told me and I went to the same hotel manager who was now playing nice seeing that I was well spoken, with no accent, and that we did have the VIP membership. I asked him if he had taken the time to confirm that my parents were not VIP before asking them to leave the lounge, especially after they had repeatedly told him they belonged there. So I went on to tell him how he was so sure that they did not belong in the VIP lounge; both my parents were dressed nicely too. It was clear that it came down to one thing, and as you so clearly stated, he perceived them as being Mexican. Not to mention that them speaking Spanish could mean that they are from countless other countries. The stories go on and on.

It is true, that a large portion of the undocumented population is Mexican, and it seems clear that such is the reason why people don't want to change immigration policy. On top of that, the discrimination is there and as harsh as ever before, even if not as overtly as in the cases that you've mentioned. My wife, being Chinese, hears tons of nonsense all the time. She's heard some coworkers say, "OMG, they've just hired another one of those Mexicans. I wonder if they even have a green card." It's funny, however, that my wife follows by saying, "hey you should meet my husband, he is Mexican." lol.

Listen, the Chinese and the Irish had it bad, but to say that it is not bad for undocumented Mexicans now a days I think misses the point. To reiterate the point, the discrimination is not as overt, but it is there nonetheless. I'm sure that you, being in a similar situation to many of us Mexicans (being undocumented) can appreciate our difficulties.

Sorry for the long post.

Its different because there were no laws protecting these people, in fact, Chinese people were barred from entering the USA and is why some of them left to Mexico (which explains why so many northern mexican states have people decedent of Chinese), sure immigration back then wasnt as complicated as it is now and Irish people could easily immigrate here legally with out much hassle, but there wasn't anything to protect them agaisnt being discriminated based on their race, religion or gender until 1964 when the civil acts right was passed. If you are brown and are born here or here legally, there are laws out there to protect you. I personally have seem them being acted. The people before the 1960s didnt have any of the anti discrimination laws we have now. Is discrimination gone entirely? Of course not but it wasnt as bad as it was decades ago. People nowadays apply racist stereotypes to somehow mask their ignorance and unwillingness to be open , they justify it by saying how they only care about the legal status of a person but in reality, the skin color is really all they care about.

Being white while has brought me benefits, all my Mexican friends and other lationo friends would often ask me to talk to people for them because as we all know, white people are seemed more believable and taken seriously, ive always thought it was unfair and unjust but it will take many more decades for that to be gone. I think we are all just born racist. Whenever a baby is born, one of the first thing I hear is people saying how white they were born, even among the latino community. Oh white? what a pretty baby!! Black baby? well even then hes pretty! but omg look at X persons baby their skin is so light!!! cute!! or maybe its something we have been conditioned to prefer.

Being undocumented is more of a status or a labelled that no one really knows and because of that, that lack of knowledge is used to stereotype people. As you said, if a brown person gets hired, he will automatically be called a Mexican, and once thats the case, he or she will automatically be put into that, "ohhh hes probably illegal or using fake papers" its not as open as before but its there and how we are conditioned to appreciate lighter skin, people are too conditioned into applying stereotypes to certain people. It wont change for a while.

I rarely tell people my status only my direct family know, my friends and co-workers all think I was born here, I never talk about it or bring it up. and even the few times I have brought it to people. they are just shocked and think I am kidding. Do I understand it how hard it is to be undocumented? While I might not understand it from a skin color perspective, I do understand it limits me in things I would like to do. If if wasnt for DACA, i would probably have gone home. I had to get my license from a different state and while showing that in a different state isn't the end of the world, it is an conversation started when people ask about why cars plates say a different state than my card. Or why I can't travel with them. I am sure by now they have realize it given the number of excuse of why I cant that I have given them.

I dont think being white has given me any employment benefits while I didnt have DACA, las esquina was an place id go look or work but brown people would always be picked because they thought I was just a white guy looking to avoid paying taxes and plus mexicans are known for being hard workers. If I wasnt doing that, id go and clean asbestos, so I don't think being white but undocumented benefit me at all in the employment field. Visually yeah for sure but when it came to work, I was the same as the rest of people here illegally

Hear hear. I am grateful for the now existing laws that I hope to one day protect me if I'm ever up for deportation or any other type of discrimination. Let's just hope that they work in practice. I'll let you know when it happens.
