DAP Twitter Page
Hi everyone,
Some fellow members had the awesome idea to create a Twitter handle so that we can represent ourselves and our own ideas. I went ahead and created the handle @DreamAct_Portal . Those who had come up with this idea and said they would be willing to post on there - please DM me and I'll send over the info if you'd like. On this thread, we can post the comments that we would like to be screenshotted and tweeted on the account. Please feel free to post comments, suggestions, etc... Let's try and carry our opinions as a forum onto the same platforms that other organizations use. |
Re: DAP Twitter Page
Don't protect the tweets, let's leave them open to get RTs and more dollowers
|
Re: DAP Twitter Page
Post a statement "compromise for the DA is needed in this political climate and is our only hope"
|
Re: DAP Twitter Page
"UWD does NOT speak for all of us. Is very wrong to value profits over lives!"
|
Re: DAP Twitter Page
Just to make sure that we clarify each statement is from an individual user and not the DAP entirely... What do you guys think we should write at the end of the tweets? Something like: "*statement* ... - DAP member" ?

Re: DAP Twitter Page
Tweet rebuttals to whatever UWD retweets to get people that don't agree to follow the page.

Re: DAP Twitter Page
This an amazing idea. I will follow! add CNN etc. let's get this show started.

Re: DAP Twitter Page
And I read somewhere that teachers were openly supporting their Daca students on twitter.
Perhaps tweet and ask them to help us get the word out. Tweeting at @joseiswriting would help too! He was RT Daca recipient posts earlier today. |
Re: DAP Twitter Page
Encourage @RepLipinski to co-sponsor DA. I see he supports us but is one of the few Dems who hasn't co-sponsored it yet. Let's let him know we're open to compromise too.

Re: DAP Twitter Page
Please post the CBO stats if one of you can find it.
Found CNN and WaPo stats : In addition, as undocumented workers covered by the announced actions enter the mainstream economy as legally authorized workers, they will be able to work in jobs that better fit their particular level of skills, rather than becoming concentrated in occupations or industries where the likelihood of detection and deportation is lowest. The higher productivity from these two sources, combined with increased labor force participation and a modest increase in the population of high-skilled immigrants, is why an analysis by the President's Council of Economic Advisers found that the announced administrative actions on immigration would grow the American economy as a whole, raising the level of GDP by at least 0.4% -- equivalent to an additional $90 billion of output in 2024. Much of the benefit of all this will accrue to U.S.-born workers. Our analysis shows that the administrative actions will do nothing to diminish the quantity of jobs for U.S.-born workers but will improve the quality of these jobs, raising average wages by 0.3% after a decade. These findings are based on both studies of historical experience and the fact that the additional economic activity associated with any new worker will help create demand that supports a commensurate number of additional jobs. http://www.cnn.com/2014/12/09/opinio...lan/index.html "As an economist, my knee-jerk response was to counterattack based on the economic falsehoods that the administration continues to push: e.g., the evidence-free claims that DACA recipients take jobs from native-born workers. I’ve talked about immigrants’ contribution to labor supply, a particularly important dimension of the economic argument, as our aging workforce is responsible for 70 percent of the predicted slowdown in potential economic growth, according to the Congressional Budget Office. I’ve cited statistics about how DACA “dreamers” appear to contribute more than they receive in benefits from the tax and Social Security systems, and how they pay a higher effective state/local tax rate than households in the top 1 percent. The costs of providing public education, for example, are clear, but the benefits are diffuse and show up in myriad ways that advanced societies have long agreed are worth it. Re: DAP Twitter Page
I think @Fwd_us is doing a great job!
On a side note: The more I think about it - I think the whole "clean DA" narrative from UWD is a negotiation tactic. Christina Jimenez has publicly come out for current draft of Dream Act. |
Re: DAP Twitter Page
What you are doing is great!
Already followed |
Re: DAP Twitter Page
Thanks for all the support. My only suggestion/request would be to avoid phrases like "Here to Stay" and "Want relief NOW"... it makes us seem bratty. This country does not owe us anything. Lets kill them with kindness and watch our tone.

I just think Nancy and Chuck know what they're doing - and I would hate to indirectly hurt the negotiations in any way. Reading UWD's tweets - they are sending mixed messages and contradicting themselves. Not trying to bash them but just stating my observation. Some are saying to pass the DA now/ASAP while others are demanding clean DA only because border security hurts communities. Let's just keep our message positive, tweet statistics, RT Senators who support us, urge those who haven't yet and RT individual Dreamers sharing their stories. Just my suggestions. |
Re: DAP Twitter Page
Great points Zara!
Thank you for being understanding on not coming across as entitled and bratty. Can't remember what Late night show I was watching when all this DACA stuff when down 10 days ago but one of the Republican guys on there brought up the point that demanding relief NOW is being entitled and does not look good. Since then, I have been very watchful of my tone. |
Re: DAP Twitter Page
No need to say thank you - we're all on the same side here! And Lila17, Smooth and Ceaguila are doing all the hard work!
Btw you reminded me - Bono was a guest on The Tonight Show (I think) and made some positive comments defending us. Maybe we can find and RT that? It's great to see how much support we have. |
