Details of GOP daca meeting

Quote:

The president said he wants Congress to adopt separate border security legislation that includes an extension of the immigrant protections established under President Barack Obama known as the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA.

“Decoupling DACA from any year-end deal was a prime statement of the president,” said Senator David Perdue, a Georgia Republican.

Senator Thom Tillis, a North Carolina Republican, said the lawmakers who met with the president plan to create an immigration-border security bill that can get the 60 votes needed to clear the Senate.

"What we’re really trying to do is make sure we marry up the treatment for DACA and the treatment for interior enforcement of border security that gets a significant squad of our conference,” Tillis said. “And then we start negotiating and working with the other side to get to 60 votes."

John Cornyn of Texas, the No. 2 Senate Republican, said immigration legislation could come early next year.

Shut it down Dems! There will be significant backlash against democrats if they cave in December!

Holy fuck what if Dems are the one that filibuster a daca immigration fix due to interior enforcement.

Shut it down Dems don’t put yourselves in that position

Well, there it is, no DACA fix by this year. How many Dems have committed to withholding their vote?

December will be exciting to say the least.

There is absolutely no way anything happens for DACA next year. No Republican will want to vote for anything related to immigrants in a midterm election year.

As early as next year?!

And as late as never!

Dems you better shut it down

Re: Details of GOP daca meeting

uh, it would be shocking if they don't try to include stuff like RAISE, abolition of diversity visa program, etc. in their bill, it won't be just DACA for border/internal security though... they will set up a poison pill bill for march 2018 and blame democrats for its failure.

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), who was in the meeting, predicted that Congress would pass legislation in January or February.

"This is not going to be part of the year-end omnibus or CR," he told reporters.

No way will GOP pass a bill next year. Just not possible.

Re: Details of GOP daca meeting

Cotton, who sponsored the RAISE Act with Perdue, noted that he had ideas on green card reforms and the guest worker program, but signaled those could be left out of a DACA deal.

He described the potential agreement as a "tightly bound coherent package."

"If you keep trying to add more and more into the bill I think it likely collapses under its own weight," he said.

Guys , something will definitely pass!

They’re just trying to leave it out of budget deal to get to no. Nothing will get done next year when there’s mid terms. It’s up to Dems only

Exactly! I don’t trust republicans for shit lol.

Democrats are warning they will demand a DACA fix either before or as part of the December government funding bill.

"We have to find a way to get this done before the end of the year," said Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.). "[This] limits the opportunities."

Durbin has been talking with Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) about a potential agreement, but said on Thursday that he was still waiting to get an initial list from Republicans on what they want on border security.

Have democrats shown concrete willingness to shut down to the government over a DACA fix? To what extent?

I'm not very hopeful right now. :/

Shut it down. Republicans are known for saying later and never following up and by wanting concessions and then voting no.

Fuck those guys, all 52 of them plus the vice president.

There will no budget bill, and there will be no debt ceiling increase. They can work by candlelight and trade in acorns.

Now let's pass it to Gov. Schwarzenegger:

Giving Trump that 3 month extension in September was a mistake, they should've let it all catch on fire instead of letting republicans turn around and go back on any deal they agreed to.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Congress must pass the #DreamAct before the end of the year.

Republicans did it and won big in 2014. What do democrats have to lose here aside the moral high ground that you can't even wipe your ass with.

I doubt the government will be shutdown for a DACA fix. Dems will attach DREAM Act to the budget bill and blame Repubs for the budget bill not passing. In return, the repubs will blame the dems for attaching DREAM Act to the budget bill and therefore pass the blame to the dems.

Start saving as much $$$ as you guys can before our permits expire.

Go ahead and self deport whiles you’re at it. There can’t be an indefinite shutdown so someone has got to blink first . Republicans control all 3 branches so guess who gets the blame?
