Congress returns to nightmare December

Immigration

The fate of an Obama-era immigration program has emerged as one of the largest hurdles to getting a government funding deal.

The Trump administration is nixing the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which allows undocumented immigrants brought into the country as children to work and go to school without the fear of deportation.

The deadline for deciding what to do about DACA isn’t until mid-March, but Democrats are demanding that Congress take action before the end of the year.

Trump and Senate Republicans decided during a closed-door meeting last month immigration would not be part of the spending bill, but House Democrats plan to force the issue.

Without Democratic support, it could prove difficult for House Republicans to pass legislation preventing a government shutdown. Several liberal senators are also pledging to oppose a funding bill without a DACA agreement.

I wish the media would stop saying Congress has until March to deal with DACA. They don't. Any fix that is passed will take months to implement.

I'm equally excited and wary about the meeting tomorrow.

I wonder if they'll keep quiet this time around to prevent the media ruining it for us like the last meeting they had.

Pretty much. Also if democrats give them another short extension it just proves that they are pushovers. They already extended the olive branch once, next course of action is to start beating people with it.

We need to write to Schumer and Pelosi and apply pressure!

Nightmare December for DACAs perhaps, but if no daca deal happens and we lapse they will smugly sit in their large warm houses without worry.

Technically Congress does have until March to deal with DACA. Trump never said they have until March to find a solution and implement it, but rather just find a solution or a fix to DACA.

Congress now has 6 months to legalize DACA (something the Obama Administration was unable to do). If they can't, I will revisit this issue!
President of the United States Trump said 'LEGALIZE DACA" not legalize DACA recipients

Considering that Trump has 0 legal education, I really wouldn't read that deeply into his tweets considering that majority of them end with "SAD! #MAGA".

If he wanted DACA to become a lawful program he wouldn't cut it so abruptly, he would say that he wants congress to act on it because he thinks the program is overstepping but will leave it as such until a solution is passed. Instead what happened is that Sessions and Bannon convinced him that Ivanka lookalikes will fuck him if he ends it, much to Trump's confusion as to why suddenly everyone wants his blood after the Sept 5th announcement. Then he backtracked and called on the congress to act as the program was basically set to expire.

Ask yourself why he isn't speaking much with Sessions these days. Hell only reason why Sessions still has a job is due to the republicans in the senate, they'd completely flip on Trump if he fired Sessions.

So...... Do you agree with me that Swim19 is wrong and that the media has all the right to say Congress has until March to deal with DACA because NO ONE ever said we want DACA fix implemented by March 2018?

Ok, but either way we’re still illegal.

Leave Swim alone. She’s busy enough as it is. She has way too many boys to turn away.

Who cares about the semantics? You argue over the silliest details .

I don't care what Trump said. The fact is on March 6th people will lose their DACA, and even if they pass something on March 5th people will have a lapse in their status (lose their jobs, drivers license, etc). The media is failing to convey the urgency of the situation by reporting that Congress has until March.

No. People are already losing DACA but I am just lucky I have until 2019. A DACA-fix is the worst we can have. We cannot have a DACA-fix. We need green card right now. Fuck citizenship, just give me a green card!

Whatever solution it is, they need to permanently fix this. But I do agree that a GC should be the minimum.

Most people expire in fall 2018.

We need the clean bill camp to back down. They would only make the situation worse. Ideal in politics is really stupid.

I'm talking about the people who didn't have an option to renew. Those expiring before March 6th had an opportunity to renew and were not able to for various reasons.

No, I'm with swim on this one.

My post was more about Donald Trump having no idea about policy to actually plan any, as you'd expect someone with zero public policy or law experience to have. You could put a bill in front of him essentially making every single republican an enemy combatant, tell him that it's good and people will love him, and he'd sign it.

Exactly. Which is why DA needs to be attached to a spending bill. He already said the spending bill is an item that must pass.

No such thing as mansplaning on the internet. Everyone is automatically a white or hispanic male, sometimes of varying fruity levels.

In other news, I would be severely dissapointed if all we got was a daca legalization and not a legalization for dreamers.
