Trump tweet on bipartisan deal

https://twitter.com/realdonaldtrump/...85587765280768

Quote:

The so-called bipartisan DACA deal presented yesterday to myself and a group of Republican Senators and Congressmen was a big step backwards. Wall was not properly funded, Chain & Lottery were made worse and USA would be forced to take large numbers of people from high crime.....
https://twitter.com/realdonaldtrump/...93123985973248

Quote:

The language used by me at the DACA meeting was tough, but this was not the language used. What was really tough was the outlandish proposal made - a big setback for DACA!

https://twitter.com/realdonaldtrump/...90999784783872

Quote:

....Because of the Democrats not being interested in life and safety, DACA has now taken a big step backwards. The Dems will threaten “shutdown,” but what they are really doing is shutting down our military, at a time we need it most. Get smart, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!
https://twitter.com/realdonaldtrump/...98415301718017

Quote:

Sadly, Democrats want to stop paying our troops and government workers in order to give a sweetheart deal, not a fair deal, for DACA. Take care of our Military, and our Country, FIRST!

Didn’t McConnell promise a vote on a bipartisan deal?
If we can get 67 votes and a discharge petition from the house and get 290 votes maybe we don’t need trump.

GOP wont put anything for vote thaf isnt supported by Trump

Dems deserve this to be honest, for putting out such a shitty proposal. This is all negotiation. Dems low balled, so Trump felt like he was trying to get taken advantage of and told them to fuck off. The working group can come up with a more reasonable proposal than what was presented.

Not surprised. These tweets might be for his base, but they also derail negotiations. I wonder if Miller was the one to tuck him into bed last night? Also I was reading this interview WSJ did with Trump and he didn't seem to understand that DACA participants are DREAMers.

Yes he did. But only if they had the necessary votes to pass it. Without Trump's support, I don't think they will have the votes.

We are running out of time for a DACA deal. Even if Trump support the deal now, it still has to go through all the voting process!

You give Trump too much of a pass. He could have said he needs more money for the wall as next step in negotiations. Instead he goes on a rant like a spoiled two year old. Also stop saying it was only DEMs - this was a bipartisan proposal

He did say that. They tried to give him $1.6b when he was asking for 18? They tried to throw in TPS when DHS has just cancelled it?

Exactly this. Some people on this forum feed off of others opinions way too much without analyzing and understanding the situation. This was a bipartisan proposal: 4 repubs and 4 dems. What I would like to know is to what extent Schumer, Pelosi were involved in this? It’s def back to the drawing board but relief is coming.

Trump did say that he wanted more money for his wall. The problem is, that's not all he said. He said a lot of other things, and that's where the problem lies. That's where negotiations are derailed.

Give him 5-18B for his wall, you say? Well that means giving him 10-33B all together for border security. Some Democrats will not support this.

As for the TPS, an effort needed to be made to defend them. If no effort was made, many Democrats would be furious.

That's not a good idea. You're going to lose some Republicans regardless, and now you want to lose some Democrats. This bill is not going to pass with some Democrats and some Republicans not supporting it. You need most all Democrats and some Republicans.

This was not a lowball offer. Democrats are just dealing with unreasonable people.

Republicans were in on that negotiation. This appeased both sides. If they move it more to the right your gonna lose democrats, move it more to the left you’ll lose republicans.

DACA, the roughly 700,000 people currently under the program.

how can you honestly think that dems are the ones dealing with unreasonable people.
you do know that border security isn't even something that is a concession by them, right?
it's something that we need, and is agreed upon across the board.
chain migration is an actual problem, because eventually you have more and more people that have no real ties to this country being granted citizenship on the basis of a flawed system.
and what else...
the diversity lottery?
that is again, something that is something that is agreed upon by both sides that it needs to be ended.

so the problem here isn't that repubs are being unreasonable, it's that dems are purposely not making their best effort on our behalf.
first they lumped in the broader dreamer population, and now they tried to lump in TPS.
everything trump is asking for is understandable, i can't say the same for dems.

Are you serious? Your lord and savior said he wanted it done in two phases. Dreamers would" be a bill of love"and then rest should be done in a CIR. It pretty damn reasonable that diversity lottery and chain migration did not get solved in a Dreamer bill. We only make up about 10% of the undocumented population, you can't expect all bargaining chips to be used just for us. Also this bill was created through bipartisan effort so republicans senators agreed to it as well.

do you not understand how to think rationally and view this reasonably?
why WOULDN'T this bill be for the current DACA population?
how the fuck is ending diversity lottery a bargaining chip if the push to end it is bipartisan?
the bargaining chips for CIR as it stands are just chain migration.
that's literally it.
if we had a wall, the negotiations for broader CIR would be easier in the future, because while you can't legalize 20+ million undocumented people, it's not realistic to think that all of those are going to be deported.

so basically what do you think dems are even giving???
the wall doesn't count.

What's agreed is that we need border security. All the money for a great wall is not agreed. Border security, yes. Great wall, not necessarily. Only about 40% of Americans want the wall. Compare that to 80% who want DACA.

Democrats lost on tax reform and they lost on health care (individual mandate repealed). If they lose on the wall, they risk revitalizing the Trump base and angering the Dem base. In an election year, this is dangerous.

Sure a DACA fix would be in place, but Democrats would be risking a lot.

Democrats fight for more than just DREAMers.

If you're going to give up chain migration and you want to employ a merit based system, do it, but do it in CIR. In exchange, give work authorization to the 12m+ undocumented people here because of a broken immigration system. That's a fair trade.

DREAMers for CIR (i.e. change from chain to merit) is not a fair trade because Democrats fight for more than just DREAMers.

This is a nation of immigrants. Make changes to the immigration system where it's merit based, but leave some room (at least a little) for compassion and diversity. By completely eliminating Diversity Lottery and TPS you're turning this country into Trump nation.

Democrats won't allow this. Democrats fight for more than just DREAMers.

I'm not giving up, but I am going to start actively working on Plan B. I honestly don't see how the GOP & DEMs are going to agree - not when a deal must satisfy members like Cotton & Goodlatte. Also there will always be DREAMers fighting to stay here, even if some of us leave.

It wasn't the tweet as much as Durbin's response to the meeting.
