Conservatives push Ryan for vote on hardline immigration bill

Quote:

The Republican Study Committee, an influential group of more than 150 Republicans, on Tuesday will announce it has voted to support an immigration bill from conservative hardliners and will push for a vote on the legislation, setting up a potential showdown between the House and Senate on the issue.

The nearly two-dozen-strong steering committee of the RSC voted to make the decision to back the bill, which also would extend the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, from committee and subcommittee chairmen Bob Goodlatte, Mike McCaul, Raul Labrador and Martha McSally, and warned against cutting a deal with Democrats behind conservatives' backs.

"The Securing America's Future Act is the framework to strengthen border security, increase interior enforcement and resolve the DACA situation," the steering committee said in a statement. "We believe an eventual stand alone floor vote is essential. We oppose any process for a DACA solution that favors a backroom deal with Democrats over regular order in the House."

The move follows a commitment secured by the House Freedom Caucus, a smaller group of conservatives, in exchange for their votes on government funding for leadership to whip the bill. Those efforts to push the House to the right could complicate efforts to reach an immigration compromise in Congress, as moderates in the Senate convinced Republican leadership during the weekend shutdown to make a commitment to move to an open floor debate in the Senate on immigration if no deal is reached.
Quote:

"Are we at 218, I'm not pretending that we are, but I believe this is the direction we should be headed," Walker said. "I think ultimately (a vote) is our ask. The only other things that we have seen out there are pieces of legislation that, though well intended, may garner 20 or 25 Republican votes here or there. That's why we believe this is the framework to get things moving."

The only good news about the article is even they don't think they are at 218 votes in the House.

It's set up to give you the illusion of being wanted here by providing you with the opportunity to travel/work; however, if one reads between the lines, it's purpose is to gradually deport DREAMers + other immigrants. It's set up to imprison you and set you up for failure.

Mulvaney told me yesterday the administration thinks it will be difficult to get an immigration bill in three weeks and likes the work being done by Tom Cotton and Goodlatte.

Fuck that Goodlatte bill. Dems better not deal on a Goodlatte bill!

USA Act is by Pete Aguilar and Will Hurd, not Cotton and Goodlatte.

Knowing how badly the Democrats caved on the Shutdown, the right wing and the White House are going to try and milk this and ask for everything and the kitchen sink, all in return for something that isn’t worth it.

This is exactly what's gonna happen. I don't blame the democrats for caving it, as much we want to think the Americans stand with us they only do spiritually. I can't imagine the number of calls and emails they were getting to open the government up. It's amazing they shutdown the government for as long they did jusr for us. All did this was show us how much republicans hate us and never wanted to help us in the first place. What good would a longer shutdown do when republican started negotiations by providing a bill that required us to make 120% above the poverty line?

This bill is h1b visa on steroids.

H1B for life for only daca 'holders' ( they want to exclude Dreamers who have the most equity in the U.S., resources, and experience), not actual Dreamers, commodifying our labor for life, criminalizing stay at home parents and caretakers, and you will never have the right to vote or to citizenship.

Nooope.

Goodlatte and Labrador need to be booted out of office since they spend the taxpayers' hard-earned money- and they gladly take our money, too - persecuting undocumented immigrants instead of improving the life of constituents in their home states. Btw, VA and ID have huge rates of welfare, financial assistance, MEDICAID, and MEDICARE use by native-born citizens.

This can turnout into a Black Mirror episode.

Dreamers in the US push for permanent stay, they get what they wish for but with a price - slave labor, doesn't lead to citizenship, you live in constant fear that you won't meet the eligibility requirements - its so psychologically mind fucking that we end up self deporting.

Sad things is they were both immigration lawyers. Goodlatte is retiring and Labrador is running for governor as well. Two people who are leaving congress want to screw us .

Nancy Pelosi and Rep. Hoyer better start working on this stat, right? They didappeared while the Senate was acting out the shut down.

Act over. When do we hear Dem House leadership's strategy that does not involve handing out three-month extensions to pay Republicans to do whatever they want to whomever they want??

They are only spoken to when Dem votes are needed, they are not needed in the House. I don't even know why Dems even show up to work.

Speaking of the USA act according to the congress.gov website they got 1 more co-sponsor added yesterday. Why is Goodlatte bill being discussed over the USA act.

Goodlatte bill has 77 cosponsors all GOP. Usa Act has 55 cosponsors, roughly 50%/50%. You already know the answer.

Because Ryan promised the Freedom Caucus to put it up for a vote in exchange for their votes in support of a temporary spending bill and it’s also a conservative DACA bill backed by the White House.

At this point, I will even take the hardline bill. I just want to continue my career. Had the lower court not made the recent ruling on DACA, I would have been fucked as many probably would have been as well.
