White House Chief of Staff: Trump not expected to extend DACA deadline

Quote:

White House Chief of Staff John F. Kelly said Tuesday that President Trump is not expected to extend the March 5 deadline when work permits will begin to expire for young immigrants known as “dreamers.”

“I doubt very much” Trump would extend the program, he said.

Kelly told reporters at the Capitol that he was “not so sure this president has the authority to extend it” because the original program protecting the immigrants was not based on law.

Kelly’s comments come as senators are trying to come up with a legislative solution for the dreamers and other aspects of the immigration system. Kelly also said he would recommend against Trump accepting a short-term legislative patch.

The White House rejected a new plan Monday from Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Christopher A. Coons (D-Del.) that would grant permanent legal status to dreamers and bolster security along the U.S.-Mexico border. But the new legislation stops short of authorizing the $25 billion to $30 billion that Trump and conservative Republicans want for border security construction projects.

I wonder if they’re still hopeful they’ll get some of the items from their framework. Because at this point it’s clear that’s what they care about.

How fucked are we from 0 (being hunted down by ICE and deported one by one since they have our info) to 10 being granted citizenship straight up.

It is reinstated actually, it was reinstated by the California judge, and if Trump wanted to he could easily drop the SCOTUS lawsuit in court and give it a new deadline. But that is definitely not going to happen.

Meanwhile...

Quote:

WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House chief of staff says “Dreamers” wouldn’t be a priority for deportation, even if their Obama-era protections expire and a deadlocked Congress hasn’t completed a deal to protect them.

John Kelly has told a small group of reporters at the Capitol that as long as an immigrant in the U.S. illegally has no criminal record, they are likely to stay “out of anyone’s scope” for a long time. He says, “They are not a priority for deportation.”

Yet some people in here think we will be “selling out” the undocumented people by trying to compromise. Enforcement is coming people, with or without a DACA deal. Let’s not be gullible here. This is just the beginning.

Is there really a March 5th deadline now, though? I thought that with CA court ruling and USCIS accepting renewals again, DACA would stand beyond March 5th until and if the Supreme Court overthrows the CA ruling to reinstate DACA.

God, it burns a hole through his turkey neck to say DACA/Dream Act/immigration/etc.

Hope it hurts, McTurtle.

I haven't met him yet though we're planning to meet up soon since we don't live far away from each other. He's still under DACA. I don't know how the rumor that he adjusted got around.

The real deadline I suppose is when the court rules on the lawsuit, but since no one knows for sure when that is or the outcome, it should still be pressed that March 5th is an important date to cross (if not technically the real deadline).

Glad to know he's good since I haven't seen him around in a while. I'm a programmer too and this website was one of the reasons why I pursued it. Could you also let him know I said thank you?

Could be some time. Some of us sent in our renewals as soon as we were able to a few weeks ago. I haven't seen anyone approved just yet.

I am hoping we don't see those long long approval times we saw back in 2016. I was expired for nearly two months and forced to take a leave of absence from work.

He would be the champion had he negotiated in good faith. We would be on our way adjusting our status had he not fucked every deal that came his way.

Making a deal is like dating. Trump is perhaps the single greatest deal maker to have ever walked the earth (he wrote a book on this very topic, "The Art of the Deal"). He'll come through.
