Durbin on Fox 3/18/18

WALLACE: All right. I got about a minute left and want to talk about one more subject because we are back here again. Next Friday, the government once again runs out of money. In the effort to pass a spending bill that will keep the government funded until October 1st, Democrats are saying they are not going to use the leverage of passing that bill to try and get a DACA fix.

Is that true? If that is true, if you want to insist on a DACA fix as part of that spending bill, aren't you the, the Democrats, abandoning the Dreamers?

DURBIN: President Trump was the one who abolished the DACA program on September the 5th. President Trump has rejected six different bipartisan proposals to pass a law and solve the problem he created. He is the key to solving the DACA problem.

I have spoken to the leaders of both sides of the aisle, House and Senate, begging them to do something into it now for DACA, even included on the omnibus bill. But the president's approval to move forward is critical for the Republicans --

(CROSSTALK)

WALLACE: But yes or no, are you going to insist on a DACA fix as part of this bill? Or are you going to let the bill passed, avoid a shutdown, and do nothing about DACA?

DURBIN: We’re not going to have a shutdown. But I’m urging the leaders to basically come together and understand there is an emergency at hand here, 780,000 young people have their lives hang in the balance because President Trump killed the DACA program. We have to move on a bipartisan basis to put it back in business.

WALLACE: Senator Durbin, thank you. Thanks for joining us. Always good to talk with you, sir.

DURBIN: Good talking to you.

i don't know how realistic a narrow deal like GC status for 780k daca people + full funding for the wall even is.

I think its more realistic than clean dream act for full funding + CIR and interior enforcement.

Durbin's non-answer is a vote for this shit of a waste of taxpayer $$ budget.

I hope these House Democrats withhold their votes if a Dream Act version is not included.

Kudos to my reps Smith and Jayapal for signing into this.

Man, I sure as hell appreciate these Dems for doing this, but spineless Democrats like Durbin and Schumer are a disappointment.

I think many of the clean Dream Act activists pushed for a clean Dream Act thinking all of the Dems would be united and use leverage.

I will be posting a list of all the Democratic appropriators (distributors) in Congress that decide the funds for detention and deportation.

Enough with the lip service. First, it was childhood arrivals. Then it was Dream Act beneficiaries. Now only Daca holders. There are lives on the line for those in all three categories.

ICE has a list of nearly 1,000,000 people under final orders, orders of supervision, who are non-criminal and at risk to be expelled while Durbin and co. do nothing to protect them.

TPS and Daca holders who lose protection and have final orders will be a target for removal.

All I know is Republicans would fight tooth and nail for something they wanted passed. Just look at the tax cut, they screwed over majority of Americans to get their rich donors and themselves fat tax cuts. Dems lost this fight big time, with their fake shutdown and Pelosi's long was speech.

Let's not go after Durbin now. He's been fighting for us for over 17 years. Have some gratitude.

He just seems to be going along with whatever Schumer says.

Most of us, especially the clean Dream Act people, expected more of a fight. Well, I guess we can continue watching his Senate stories for 10-15 more years.

It's easy to go after something when you have both houses of congress and the president.

Critics here shouldn't surprise either of you. The Young Turks have been criticizing Democrats for being weak on immigration for years, even when they had control.

They always lack muscle. Many of us just do not agree with the both of you. It's not only people here; it's very progressive groups noticing the same issue with Dems.

If you guys are seeking to change minds, then the both of you should go to DC and enlighten the progressive Dreamers criticizing Dems because thst's exactly what is happening right now.

You won't gain much by logging on here and calling others right wingers for criticizing the people who really won't fight for you much.

It's also way easier to USE people than to lift heavy to build beneficial things for people

You have been drinking the establishment kool aid too long, my friend.

This excuse of the Ninth Circuit for not actually negotiating to protect immigrants is the excuse they use to not do anything.

Hoyer actually came out and said, today, that people will have to pressure Republicans to do something...really? How compassionate and clever: outsource their fucking job to taxpayers, even better make the undocumented immigrants themselves, who are taxpayers without official voices (votes), do the actual work!

Brilliant. And you believe that only Republicans are at fault.

So why not practice what you two preach? Nah it’s better to be here bitching and blaming Democrats.

The protesters in DC are paid shills fundraising. Real daca folks are working their asses off because they know they could lose their jobs any day. Hint: protesting does NOTHING. Hasn't advanced our cause an inch.
