The White House on Sunday made an 11th-hour push to include billions of dollars in border wall funding in a massive congressional spending bill due this week, but clashed with congressional Democrats over how far to go in protecting young immigrants that face deportation, the sources said.


White House officials asked Democrats to approve $25 billion for President Donald Trump’s border wall in exchange for extending the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program through fall of 2020, those sources said. That would give Trump his full wall funding request in the must-pass spending bill and still give him leverage over the DACA program heading into his 2020 reelection campaign.


But Democrats balked, demanding instead that the White House provide a pathway to citizenship to 1.8 million young immigrants eligible under the DACA program, those sources said. The White House might have been open to negotiating further, but Democrats were only willing to entertain the massive wall funding figure in exchange for helping the same number of immigrants that Trump embraced in a proposal earlier this year.

only way this had a change of going through is GC status for the 800k daca'ers.
they want him to remember his offer of coverage for 1.8 mil but forgot that he's gonna ask a lot more than just wall funding for that many people.

Based on the political atmosphere and how seats are getting lost to dems. Trump might cave and take the wall + dreamer path to citizenship. Trump knows hes fucked if he doesnt say yes, his wall will never get approved after this week.

Yes. If Trump wants his wall built, it's this week or never. I'm skeptical to see Dems are willing to trade the $25b for Citizenship, I would think they weren't interested in even doing that.

Yep, they got greedy with their demands because they thought they'd backed the Democrats into a corner. And they might have been successful if the courts hadn't stepped in allowing renewals.

The Democrats can win a fair deal for Dreamers, no age cap, not just Daca recipients, with limited border funding. In fact, this will give them even more leverage in the elections. People are disappointed, confused, and angry at the lack of action. Go bold.

No age cap for some wall funding.

The Democrats countered that offer with pathway of citizenship in exchange for $25 billion in border wall money. And that's not the first time that the Democrats have agreed to wall funding - Schumer and Trump came to a similar agreement months and months ago and then Trump backed out of it.

There was back and forth over the wkd on DACA/border wall funding for the omnibus. As of right now, there is nothing on DACA in the omnibus. But border wall funding, to the tune of $1.6 billion, is. However, Fox is told that is one of the nettlesome issues in the spending bill
