GOP 'very close' on an immigration deal, says Kevin McCarthy

But moderate Republicans seem willing to accept a narrower deal that would create a new Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, in exchange for border funding.

McCarthy said he thinks leaders are "close" to reaching a deal that would settle on a single bill that most Republicans can support.

"We have been in the room, working together, conservatives, moderates and others, to be able to put an immigration plan together that protects our border, secures the border, end catch and release and deals with the DACA situation," he said.

"I think we are very close to having an agreement that I think could go onto the floor ... and put the Democrats in a place, see if they're really serious about getting anything," he added

If this comes out to be no path to citizenship for DACA recipients or mass reduction in family petition, this will get no Democratic support.

Moderates have always insisted on a path to citizenship.

Right, so they might be asking for massive reduction in family sponsorship and changing to point system. This would be an instant no for the Democrats.

I would be okay with a greencard and no citizenship.

I did hear McCarthy mention ending catch and release.

I would say keep the requirements the same as daca, those who never got to apply for DACA should be allowed

The ironic part is that once you finish boot camp, or as you finish boot camp, you are eligible for citizenship.

Brothers and sisters,

People from Honduras and Nicaragua have had TPS since 1998 and El Salvador since 2001.

Twenty and eighteen years, respectively. Without sounding ignorant, could someone please tell me why they still need TPS after two decades? I mean, they've had many years to adjust, they still have time to adjust, why keep TPS around?

For us DREAMers, we had to go through our childhood and into our adulthood with nothing, so adjusting wasn't as easy as having legal, albeit, temporary presence here.

Just saying.

Just like DREAMers most can't adjust their status unless they leave the country. Why would it be different for the rest of the undocumented population?

Because there is no path to citizenship for those on TPS, you can't seriously be this uninformed right?

They should have applied for citizenship a long time ago.

I'm not necessarily uninformed, I am attempting to get us to think and discuss; not stirring the pot.

Do you guys think if DREAMers had DACA for twenty years that we would still be applying, year after year after year after year...

or would we have adjusted within that time frame? If we could calculate that, I'd reckon a majority of us would adjust way before that. There are channels to adjust. It's not like they were barred from being petitioned.

Yes if that was the only choice for some type of status that you had. What are those channels and why are you still here if they exist? Not blasting you but I really want to know.

So you’re saying that they were too lazy to adjust? Many people are shit out of luck without a pathway to adjust. That’s why there are millions of people in this country who are illegal. Sorry but you sound ignorant.

The article says moderates are going for a narrow deal. That doesn’t meet the requirements of a narrow deal!

Never finishing what? Reaching orgasm or making the partner reach orgasm? If the former, I'd argue that's a good thing --means they last long.

The only way to adjust is via marriage. AKA trading one shackle for another.

I appreciate you putting me on the spot and that is a thoughtful question to ask. I am in the process of gathering evidence of what is going to be a legitimate marriage soon. I will be adjusting in the not so distant future.

You don't need to apologize for calling me ignorant. That is your opinion and you are free to think that.

You're making a logical assessment by assuming that I am calling them lazy. I am not and I didn't.

I think its important to see both sides of the coin and not get blinded by emotion.

TPS holders always looked down on other immigrants. As John Kelly said, most of them are unskilled and can’t even speak English. Same goes for DACA, some people were just too lazy to apply. Why should they just be given a handout?

Here is where he is wrong, we don't need a
'Most' republicans to support it, we only need like 30 and thats it. This is why they dont want the petition, they very much want to keep the leverage, and this might again turn into a fucking circus and delay tactics

And this is the test for Rep. Curbelo and Rep. Denham. The discharge petition has a real chance. They need to fight for Dreamers and push forward. Everyone wants a solution, but then sabotage others' efforts.

Why would you want a bill that only 30 Republicans support? First of all, McConnell would never bring such a bill to the Senate floor, and even if he did and it passed it will get Trump's veto. The fact is we need a majority of Republicans to support it if we want a bill to become law
